2001 S-type Jag common issues/things to look out for?
Hi all,
I'm from South Africa and I'm keen on getting a 2001 S-Type 4.0L V8. I'm looking for a fun car to drive around town and a decent car for doing long trips (1000-odd km's). Fuel consumption isn't really a concern for me. Are there any things I should be on the lookout for? Some common issues? What are the major things that need to get done and at what service intervals?
I tested a 2001 S-type Autobox today with ~90,000km's today, it's had it's coils done already (according to the agents vin check). It's handled like it was on rails but I did notice a clunk (which sounded like ball joint play) from the front of the car intermittently. The radio also made a sound that was increased in frequency with the revs (I presume that's a dodgy earth of some sort). It was in generally good nick and was overall a fun car to drive.
What amazed me is the revvy nature of this car and how well it handled for a heavy car. It revs very quickly for a large V8....it really took me by surprise.

Timing tensioners failure, Rear toe links, front vertical links, sway bar bushings, dual heater control valve, Trans problems, misfires, water pump leaks, coolant tower leaks, expansion tank leaks. Steering racks can leak and inner tie rod play, low pressure power steering hose leaks, compressor leaks, valve cover gasket leaks etc............. These are all that I can think of now.

The ball joints wont clunk, The front sway bar bushings and links will clunk.
