2001 S-type overheat
My wife drove her 01 S type with the water pump inop for approx 7 miles. It died once but she got it restarted but when it died the second time it would restart but sound like it was running on 3-4 cyclinders. Did Jag incorporate a system to shut down half the cyclinders if the car gets really hot before the driver burns up the motor? God I hope so.

First off, just a tad bit of info. When a car is overheating, a tow truck is your best bet! A new engine will run you approx 1/2 the cost of the car, while a tow truck will run you about 40-50 bucks. I wouldn't risk it for one second! That condition you wrote about where the car runs like it had a restrictor plate is called limp-home mode! It'll restrict the performance of the car until you get home so that you don't further mess up your car if you're ignorant and drive it while you shouldn't! Welcome by the way!
