2001 S-Type suspension repair
I was recently told by my dealer that it would cost around $5000 to make some suspension repairs to my S-Type. The parts are - outer tie rod ends, rear shock and mounts, rear sway bar stabilizer bar links, rear tie rod link arms, rear upper and lower control arms. Beside going my dealer, would anyone recommend Sears, Midas, or Firestone for suspension repair? I'm sure their repair prices would be significantly lower than my dealer.

Hard to believe

Well it will be very costly if you pay anybody. If it was my car I would get the rebuild kit from EBay and do it myself.
Very unusual to have bad rear upper and lower control arms?? The front ones take the brunt of the wear and the front lower ball joint is a prime candidate to replace. Suspicious since those were not listed. Any chance you have replaced some parts before?
You need to help us guess what’s wrong by including full car details.
How many miles?
Why are you asking the dealer to look at the suspension?
I would not do all that work without a second opinion. Use a suspension shop and NOT a dealer.

I have replaced some of the parts you mentioned on my wifes '05. Heres the thread with "How To" and parts descriptions, you may have to scroll to the top of the page on link:

@tbird6 - The car has 74,000 miles on it. It was given to my wife and I (by my inlaws) during the summer of 2011 with 68,000 miles on it. I had to get the condenser fixed in the car but noticed that the car was making knocking noises whenever I went over bumps. I don't know cars so I had to take it to the dealer to get checked out. They gave me a laundry list of suspension parts that needed to be replaced.
@chucky60 I will look into a ford dealer.

Keep in mind that most dealerships' prime objective is to vacuum as much money out of your bank account as they possibly can....
My local Dodge dealership hasn't seen my beloved 1999 Dodge Ram pickup since they replaced the catalytic converter (for the second time) under the federal emissions warranty nearly five years ago. Yet every couple of months they still send me a post card reminding me that it is time to bring my truck to them for critical service. The list of items they claim they need to do for me grows longer each time and ranges from oil & filter changes to new spark plugs to a coolant & transmission flush to throttle body service to fuel injector replacement to four new tires etc. etc. etc. If I actually allowed them to do everything they claim my truck urgently needs, their completed service invoice would be for more money than my truck is actually worth....
