2001 S type TDC
I'm working on 2001 S type 4.0L V8. only the drivers side exhaust camshaft chain has broken. i put the cam locks on. all spins with crank but that one shaft. this is my first time and been searching for awhile (don't have a book). anyways i started taking off head (tensioners, chains, etc. ) then i realized i did not put in crank lock, but it should be lined up with cams, since all was still connected except that one cam. crank was not turned EVER with chains off. crank tool did not fit into sensor hole. not really sure what i'm looking for. I've heard it only fits one hole, so can i turn crank until i find it?
please help.
please help.

2001 S Type
Thanks for the manual. I have a 2001. I can't seem to find the spot in the book for the TDC (it's on my phone not easy to browse). All my chains are off now and cams locked down but crank tool won't go in. It should be close right, since I locked down cams when chains were on?

The engine is NOT TIMED AT TDC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to download the Jaguar training student guide from my 'engine course 168'.
It is on this forum somewhere. Do a search for the training guide. Maybe this?????

It'll be in the files area (General Tech I think) and also Gus's JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

wow
That's a lot good info! I found information for AJV8. Is that what i have (S Type 4.0L V8). Thanks a lot guys. These cars are pretty easy to work on engine wise, with correct tools. I might buy this car when I'm done. Just have to make sure of TDC for crank. Cams are easy with the tool. That manual says #1 cylinder is passenger front. Of course it has to be up on compression. It might be real close as it is now. I'm just nervous about turning it, cause cams were locked down before chains removed.
