Default 2002/3 STR throttle dead spot?

HELP! I have a 2002 pre production 2003 S Type R (4.2L with Eaton supercharger) runs well, just had a tranny service and software update, however there seems to be a dead spot in the throttle (it was there before tranny service) when I am crusing on the freeway and want to accelerate/kickdown to over take etc, car takes a deep breath?, howls then it goes into limp home mode. gear box fault on dash! Revs around 2000-3000 depending on speed at the time of acceleration.Stop car, turn off ignition, restart all OK. Got me stumped. Anyone else had a similar problem.

When this happens do you get a check engine light? if so check the code before you restart, then you can diagnose.

No there is no check engine light, just the orange/amber light to the left of the LCD display comes on and "gearbox fault" in the LCD.
I did read on another site that it may be a vacuum leak somewhere?
I cant check it at the moment, a #*@)!* L plater drove into the side of my car the other day and its in the smash repairers at the moment.

Howl fixed,gear change fixed.
I think it was a combination of a good clean (throttle body, took 2 mins) and more to the point, the battery was old and not holding a charge, replaced battery, reset codes all ok, no probs now for over 2 months.I have been told before that if you get"wierd" probs with an STR check the electrics first. Thanks for you help

Default Battery fixes.

Glad you got her fixed Jim.
My clue to a battery change was an observation by members of this great forum noting that erratic auto up/down window operation can be an early warning for a battery problem. Since mine was almost 6 years old I changed it and it fixed the window problem and probably saved many an ulcer too.

Happy trails !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
