2002.5 :
ModelS-TYPE 1999 - 2008 (X200) CLASSICDate of productionJun 13, 2002Power Unit Variant3.0 Litre petrolTransmission Variantmanual
I think this makes it an X202?
If so, can you kindly elaborate on the cluster reprogramming for steering lock elimination? Is it done with IDS by configuring the cluster as "new"? Will I need 2 keys?
Thanks a lot

if you’re lazy you can go on ebay and find a code from another car, usually works but sometimes you can find trouble

yes it’ll ask you to answer configuration questions including if the column lock is fitted. you’re gonna also gonna have to get the drop the column to get the calibration code for the motors.

And just to confirm, I will be able to configure it even though the "STEERING COLUMN LOCKED" message is currently showing?
Thank you

Dani12: You indicated in one of your multiple posts to other sub-forums that your car was imported from the U.S.
Just so that you know, there was no 2002.5 mid-year model here in the States. The 2002.5 model was a 2003 model here in North America. If your car has the "Darth Vader" (as opposed to the "horseshoe") upper console treatment then it is an X200, 2002 model.
As an FYI, my 2003 has no steering column lock as it was not required in the U.S. at that juncture.

The S-Type steering column is a strange unit and Jaguar issued several warnings about improper configuration.
Here are some documents related as well as info I remember when configuring an INSTPK.
I went to NP2000 (S-Type introduction training) and we were warned about the NON LOCKING COLUMN.
When configuring an INSTPK to an S-Type, you must tell WDS/IDS it if it has COLUMN LOCKING!
North American cars must answer NO.
If the configuration answer is YES, then the INSTPK will FOREVER display a fault with the column and Jaguar would NOT warranty replace or compensate the dealer.(you bought it)
North American cars have no column lock as S-Type Owner has indicated.
The MY you actually have might determine what can be done.
I do remember having more info but a few decades have a way of hiding documents?

All,
Thank you for your responses.
The car is definitely a USA car, I brought it from there. Date of production is Jun 13, 2002; the car definitely has an electronic column lock.
What I need to know (and it's probably asking too much) is if when the cluster reaches a 'STEERING COLUMN LOCK' state, is it possible to reconfigure it as a new cluster and tell IDS it has no electronic steering column lock, and the existing cluster will take the programming?

I'm sure you've covered this by now, but when I first got my S-Type the ignition was actually beeping like crazy. I charged the car battery and have never heard a peep since. Your battery is for sure OK, right?
Also... did any modern S-Types in the US actually come with a column lock?
