2002MY V6 intermittent low/no fuel pressure
Hi all,
My 2001/2 V6 (registered as 01 but vin suggests 02-either way an x200) has an occasional no start problem.
Using torque pro it relates to very low (5psi) to zero fuel pressure. Turning the key off then on again will generally cure the problem and it'll start and run well.
I've replaced the fuel pump as this car has sat quite a bit recently and with 168000km/19 years the old one has earned it's retirement anyway, fault exists before and after replacement. The filters on the old pump were certainly dirty. Fuel filter not yet replaced but is on the list of short term jobs to do having seen the filters on the pump.
No codes as far as the torque app can tell me.
Thanks for any leads!

Would you kindly provide a picture of the LH 'transfer pump' on the normally aspirated cars? I've never seen one.

When this happens, before you try the starter, can you hear the pump running? It's fairly quiet, but you can hear it with the engine off. Lift up the rear seat cushion to help hear it better. There are two latches along the front, and then it just lifts up. When you first turn the key to Run (but not Start yet), the pump runs for several seconds to pressurize the injector rail.
Determining if the pump runs will help steer your next troubleshooting steps. For example, while a new fuel filter is always good, it won't help if the pump isn't running.

There is only a single pump on the normally aspirated X200 that draws fuel from the other side of the tank via a suction pipe, thus the two pipes on the RH pump module.

Clearly either those sources are all wrong or you & SNG B are. I've no way to know as that's not the car I have.

No need to regret anything, we're all just making an effort to be helpful. The illustration from the JEPC and SNG Barratt are correct: there is only one fuel pump fitted to the RH side of the normally aspirated X200s. I personally have not seen an X200 with two pumps and was curious if such an arrangement exists.
There are two pumps for the X202 supercharged cars, such as the one you show in your signature, as the additional pump is necessary to provide increased fuel volume when needed.

May I offer my BlameShift services? Quite a reasonable fee, I might add. Name a situation where you might have to take the blame (doesn't matter who is actually responsible) and I can shift that blame elsewhere. I pride myself on minimal Blame In Possession (BIP) time for my clients. Short of wearing a Teflon suit, you won't find a quicker, more cost-effective means to avoid blame sticking to you.

JagV8, I hope that I did not offend by posting the screen shot of the SBG Barratt parts detail; they are, after all, a trusted source and a forum sponsor. Usually a pic helps head off a "where did you hear that" kind of response. I suspect the second access port in the tank, coupled with the second float/sender unit makes many folks think that all S-types are equipped with two fuel pumps.

I hadn't checked in on this thread for a couple of days and I see there has been some activity, thanks for all who are offering help and advice as I know very little of the technical aspects of this car since it is new to me, so even if there's debate over the details it gives me points to think about.

That manual and the posts I mentioned refer to another pump which is used to transfer fuel across the tank. You can read about it in the many posts from techs such as abonano and in the workshop manual. Even so, it may be that they are all wrong - I have no way to know.

@Craig Clapham, the best way to find an intermittent issue with the fuel pump is to use a smart phone with the Torque app to connect to the PCM via the OBD port with a Bluetooth interface. This allows you to monitor fuel pressure as you drive and see if the pressure becomes erratic.
The fuel system specifications are listed below:
