2003 Jaguar "S" Type key fob problem
#2
been there done that
I just went through this:
I am in the electronics business and we took apart the fob and inspected all the solder joints, switch function, and also determined that there IS signal broadcast when pushing buttons - however, the service place (you HAVE you have the computer hookup for the S type) was unable to program it.
I went to another Jag independent service shop which had the computer system and was able to sell me another fob, program the car to it and all is now corrected. They charged $150 for the fob and programming.
As I tested it, the windows/roof/trunk/lights also functioned on the 05' STR sitting nearby, I told them I might comeback tonight and trade:-), I guess the buyer of that car is only getting one Fob.....

My STR only came with one of the switchblade fobs. I was able to purchase a lightly used one off of ebay for $23. Since I didn't have an old one, I also has to purchase a blank "blade" to have cut for my car... got one for $14.
I looked into having a local locksmith program/cut them for me, but I determined they weren't very skilled in that area and ended up having my dealer do it. Cost $150 for programming both to match and cutting the one blade.
Overall it seemed like a decent deal since it took the dealer 45 minutes to do the job. I guess it's not as easy as we would think
