Smile 2003 S type 3.0

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum, I just acquired a 2003 3.0 S-Type Jag and it's in mint condition.
My only concern is that the driver side headlight is a bit pointed upwards. I've read in this forum about the screw-in fix for the headlights, but how do I make adjustment vertically? or even Horizontally.

I don't think I have self adjusting headlights. because it doesn't move when I turn it on.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

There are small adjusters for each light, one for horiz & one for vertical. On my car they are white plastic and I think with hex shape. They are AWFUL as the plastic mates with a corroded thin metal cog that then moves the internals. Adjust very cautiously if yours are similar.

Hey Boomer, I think I'm best qualified to answer your question. Most people in this forum have S-Type R's with projector headlights. Since yours is an 03 3.0, I assume yours is like mine and has normal headlights. The screw fix is for projector S-Types... projector S-Types are the minority of S-Types, but on these forums, projector S-Types seem to be the majority.

I bet the reason your headlight(s) are aimed weird isn't because they're out of allignment but because the housing is broken on the inside. Broken headlight housings are one of the most common issues with S-Types. If yours is broken, the "screw fix" won't do squat. My headlights are cosmetically brand new looking, but they're completely loose (broken lose) on the inside, which extends from the low beam to the high beam.

How do you fix it? Shy of buying a new headlight (which'll no doubt break on you too in time, and no one makes aftermarket headlights), you have to add a brace to your headlight. I took a cylinder hard piece of cardboard from a clothes hanger and cut it with a saw into the length I needed and propped it between the back headlight housing and the body (did this for both headlights). Spend a minute or two and you can position your brace so that your headlight is braced so that it points straight (up and down and side to side). When you need to do work on your car, simpy remove the brace and repeat the positioning process.

If your housing is slightly broke, maybe you can come up with another option. But this method works. JbB

Thank you guys for your help. JbB is correct about my headlights it's fixed mount, not self ajusting. I'll take a good look tomorrow and see if the housing is broken. if not, I'll try the screw in fix.

Thanks again for your helpfull suggestions.

My point is that even with the fixed mount there are manual adjusters for aiming. Never met a recent car of any make without them
