Default 2003 S Type 3.0L AC expansion valve location

Hello, my AC compressor burned up and I will be replacing it, I was told the expansion valve and accumlator should be replaced. Where is the expansion valve located and is it a big job to replace it. Thanks

Default expansion valve

look down the back of the engine just below the throttle body, the expansion valve is down just a bit from there on the firewall. you likely have more room than mine (jealous)

Typically, when a compressor is changed it is highly recommended to install a new receiver. (dehydrator) The expansion valve typically doesn't go bad. The expansion valve is located in front of the evaporator assembly and is a PIA to get to from what I hear.

I would press the issue of the necessity of changing out the expansion valve. Just my $0.02

as for the drier bag looking at the front of the car it will be on the left side have to drop the front plastic pan off under the bumper you will see an aluminum plug with a large hex-key hole in it, that is where the drier is located note that most places do not carry the thing got mine from here:

Jaguar S-Type A/C Accumulator/Drier | Part Number: 60-31024 | Discount AC Parts

boat load cheaper than Jaguar oem and works great, odd design though. hope this helps, as for the expansion valve it looked a *&^$% to change from the engine compartment on my 03 R model, had the whole dash and box out so just did it then. good luck! dont forget to flush out everything!
