Well, the 4.2 engine and ZF tranny are good...but can you get another 50k out of it?...especially if the tranny hasn't been serviced (which may help you sway your judgement) If serviced at least once, I'd think going a little lower on the price, and if nothing else is wrong with the car except regular wear and tear items (brakes can be expensive on the 'R' variations), i'd consider the purchase. If you drive a car 20k miles a year like I do, the car may not last but another 2-3 years. (and by car, I mean tranny)

I for one am glad to learn of an STR with that many miles on it. But before I paid $8,000 for it, I would want to carefully review its service history, item by item. Posting its full service history here would allow the STR owners to offer you much more feedback concerning the pros and cons of the vehicle you are considering....

Yeah I personally didn't think there were any STR's still alive with over 120k miles.. that's exciting to learn that its possible. Just make sure your not buying it from a schister that duct taped everything together to make it presentable enough to sell. I had this happen to me once and the car fell apart after a week and he pulled out the contract and pointed to the "as is" line... Good luck and let us know if you get those service records. All you have to do is call a Jaguar dealership with the VIN and they'll give them to you. Eric

Cool Don't do it...

While this may be an unpopular point of view I wouldn't buy a used vehicle with half that mileage let alone an STR which is expensive to maintain. That is way too many miles to even consider.

It's the old addage " pay now or pay later" only the "pay later" comes with lots of pain. I recently saw an 03' with less than 40K go for just under 12K from a reputable dealer with a complete history and CarFax.

My advice is worth exactly what ya paid for it - nothing. Having said that "don't do it"...

I have to agree. Knowing what I've read from all the STR owners here on the forum during the past seven months, there's no way I'd buy that car for even half the asking price....

I don't know where people keep finding these really cheap STRs. I have a hard time seeing anything under $15k

well, i bought a xtype, 78000 clicks, about a week later the fuel system was shot, and neeeded a complete servicing a tune up. Didn't pay out of my pocket but still fursrtatin when a passeneger is like what the eff when you car starts to stall. Ask him if hes willing to take it back if i craps out on you, and a 142 thousand, save your money man buy something with ALOT less, theres too many liers out there, especially with this economy thell do anything to make money. Believe me i know as a 16 year jag driver, once you pay the repair bill, you get night mares

STAY AWAY!!! I've spent more money than that on Maintenance and Repairs in less than two years on my '03 STR.

Buy a regular 4.2 S-Type...you will thank me later.

grifff, my suggestion is to look for a certified preowned (CPO) late model year. It would come with the factory 6 year 100,000 mile warranty which would ease your mind a lot on any repairs.
