Default 2003 S type R Head Gasket Blown

Hello,

I'm new to the forum so please forgive me if this information is out there. I haven't found it by searching. I need a copy of the repair manual or procedure with torque specs. I need to replace head gaskets this weekend and get this baby back on the road. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Al

Welcome.

Is this STR a new purchase or owned/driven by you already. I only ask if it's recently been purchased this way you may be in for more surprises down the road.

+1 to JTIS.

Good Luck!

How did the head gasket go?
The entire engine is Aluminum and very prone to warping if overheated and that is by far the most common way to blow a head gasket.

I always surface the heads when replacing a head gasket. It's just good insurance.

It is a new purchase. I am assuming the car overheated since it had a split heater hose and would not hold water...

Yes there are some threads on that. What I do is run virtualXP. It's a free download from microsoft. I then install the JTIS on the virtual XP system. Works fine but people have reported problems and just purchased a disc off Ebay! So cheap at less than $10.

Okay. I have a manual now however, the pdf shows a motor with a VCT and the motor I have does not have a VCT phaser. Are the head removal and torque sequences the same?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Earlier than about 2005/6 STR don't have VCT. I think just ignore VCT stuff.

It is common to drop valve seats on this engine also during a severe overheat....do not assume the head gasket is the only problem.

I just ran in to the same problem heat line connector busted on my wife while driving not sure how long it took until she noticed it was over heating. Replaced the broken line connector filled up coolant and was back on the road about 20 miles later it started blowing white smoke out the tail pipes. I am going to start tearing into it tomorrow. Anyone have suggestions/ideas on what I need to be looking for while I am this far in (as far as other parts that may have failed)? Any suggestions? Does anyone know part #'s and a good place to get the head gasket kit?
