Default 2003 S-Type R vs. '05 and up

Am I really missing anything besides the more "basic" looking gauges? 2003 was the first year for the R, correct? Should that ring any alarm bells? I drive a 05 3.0 and the lack of power is killing me!

This is one of the cleanest R's I've come across, there never seems to be any in Denver to begin with!

How can I check if the under supercharger hose has been replaced? Any external indication?

Also, I seem to remember reading on here about bypassing the that whole hose by looping a coolant line at the throttle body? Am I crazy? Maybe in the XJ section?

In the North American market, yes 2003 was the first year here.

Contact a dealer with the VIN# for the possibility of the suprcharger hose. Most likely if it was done a dealer did it.

In the CarMax ad, the vehicle looks clean. The exhaust tips look a bit off to me could be the photo, but its a sign of possible rearend damage at one time.

Also in the ad the vehicle looks to have been reflashed, see the orange sticker under the hood near the drivers side wiper arm.

The price seems steep for a 2003. As we all know CarMax does not budge on price. You may be able to find an '05 for that kind of money.

With 75000k on it, that does seem a bit pricey, but like Rick Said, the car is all the same. I suggest not using the reporting agency car max uses but do a CARFAX also to make sure the vehicle is clean. Make sure you purchase the MaxCare warranty which will assure you Jaguar service at a Jaguar dealership at least out to 125k. I think that's their max. You will surely love the car and the warranty will assure you if you do buy, anything major or minor can be dealt with with a mere $300.00 deductible.

My car came from Carmax also and I'm satisfied with everything they've provided.

Yikes ya that price is high. That is more than what I paid for my 03 that had 45k miles on it 3 years ago from a dealer.

It books at just south of $14,000, I'm not as concerned with it being a bit higher if it's clean. It's in VA, so I'd have to pay the transfer fee before I ever see it I think. Maybe that's refundable if I walk on it, I'll have to ask.

I see what you're saying about the exhaust Rick, maybe they can take a better picture of it for me.

What part of VA? If not too far, I can go take a look see at it for you Friday and Test Drive it also.

Had mine shipped in from Southern Cali, but had someone inspect it there for me and it was as clean as a new born babies buttocks....

Never Mind, I see, Richmond is a haul for me. I can't make that trip with my existing schedule.

totalimmortal, she looks like she's in good shape inside and out. Got Jag navigation too. Pay no more than $13500 for her.

Anyone have anything, or remember anyone saying about bypassing the under supercharger coolant hose via looping a line at the TB? Seems like a simple fix for an expensive problem. It could have come from the XJ section but i'm not sure.

I feel your pain. When I got mine, there were 2 for sale in the state; and one was sold in 3 days. The other one is the one I got, and it had lower miles and was in better shape and had a better price (after negotiations of course). It also had a more desirable color combo (to me anyways).

totalimmortal. the hose can be bypassed as described but warming of the throttle body will be lost. Cold temperatures could freeze it up. Not sure how would affect performance.

Potentially it would lock the throttle in a position that could not be overridden. Scary... maybe fatal?

I remember Mafioso (Texas) by-passing the under blower then subsequently losing mpg.

Default Winter Car?

Try it out. Is she a winter car? I've read way back that a valve can be placed in line as a means to allow or block coolant.

I was agreeing with JagV8. Coolant passing through "drive by wire" throttle bodies seems common today. My 300C has it too. Living in Northeast Ohio I wouldn't mess with it. To be honest, it can suddenly become freezing even in Southern US climates, so I would be leery of bypassing it on a daily driver.
