What do you find to be the cause of road noise most of the time, is it mostly the tires or are there other causes?

usually the customer will live with it since they don't want to buy new tires. some road noise simply comes from the condition of the roads the customer drives on. the continental tires that these cars come with don't seem to dampen road noise as well as they should.
in the matter of me slamming peoples cars, thats mostly for the x-type. the s-type is a decent jag. i don't really know why jag won't keep it, drop the x-type like they were suppose to already, and introduce the c-xf as a newfourth model.

jaguar hasn't released pricing info, but the c-xf is suppose to replace the s-type in 2009, but possibly have the affordability of the x. i say keep the s-type and usethe c-xfto replace the x-type as the entry level model. so they maintain a 4 car line up.
the x was suppose to be discontinued after 2006. i don't know what happened to that sincewere still getting new ones that are 2007 models. im guessing their trying to use remaining stock.

Hello to all! I just put up a post that had a few issues I have and this is one of them. I have a 2002 Jag Type S 4.0 and when on the highway with the windowsup and the radio down there apears to be what sounds like a Helicopter at the front Left wheel I think and it get louder as you excelrate. The noise was what I thought to be a bad wheel bearing but now I wonder. I have BFG's on them and they are fairly new so I dont think it is the tire but who knows.

I don't know about everyone else but my 03 str is far from the quality of my 2 previous XJ's however it is way more fun to drive. Any help that I can get to make it as good as possible i'm all for. It was hard for me to admit that by beloved S-type didn't live up to my expectations but I realize that it's a totally different class then the XJ's and now I'm getting used to it!
All cars have problems and as long as their fixable then your doing ok.

I would look for something obvious like a screw or other object stuck in one of the tires or jack it up and spin each wheel to see if you hear anything. It could even be a small peice of tree branch stuck in the suspension or it could be a bad tire even though they are fairly new. Also see if maybe a wheel weight came off. Check the lug nuts. Does the car vibrate or is it just the noise? It may even be a frayed fan belt.
Let us know what you find.

After we did a brake job on a lady's Land Rover she returned the next day complaining of a noise and vibration. The skeptical tech drove the truck and confirmed it. He pulled it into the shop, put it up in the air, and found stuck to the right hand rear tire was the lady's cat. Yes, all kinds of strange things can cause noises and vibrations.
