Default 2003 S-Type Sunroof & All Windows Stuck Open

Just got this car and it had all four windows stuck open, but sun roof was closed. None of the window buttons would do anything and sun roof open/close button did not work as well. I did disconnect the battery terminal for 10 min and it did not do anything. All the fuses are good. Then I pushed and hold Open button on the key fob and sun roof opened. Now i have sun roof open too and can not close any of it. all four windows, and sunroof stuck open and can't get them close. Doors lock and unlock, seat works fine and other electronics seem working properly... Any advice?

Is it possible you can provide additional information about the vehicle. To start with, is this a V6 or V8 model and are you experiencing this difficulty with the ignition on or off? How does the vehicle run and how old is the battery?

Try pushing and holding the lock button on your key fob. I don't know why your window switches aren't working but this might at least get them all closed.

It is V-6 and has new battery. I have same problem regardless Ignition is on or off. The car runs great.

Pushing and holding the lock button locks it and does not close windows.

Is bad main window switch can be responsible for sunroof not closing?

ok,

Just got to my car and holding the key in closed position on the driver door made my sun roof to close fully. Open close button for sun roof inside does not work and probably needs to be replaced.

Windows still are all the way open and can not close it using controls inside, key in the door, or using the key fob. rear view mirror control works fine on both sides. Culd i have a bad window control module or should i look for something else?

Is there a way on 2003 S-Type power windows manually and close it? I have rear door panel out and there are 5 wires at the window switch.

I need to close these windows so i can drive it to the shop.

Plug the window switch in (make sure all of them are plugged in). If your main switch isn't plugged in, then none of the windows will work.

all fuses are good and window switch is plugged in. How can i close all the windows through? I have closed windows with bad switches on various cars, but they all just had two wires going to the window motor. how can i do it on Jaguar and why there are 5 wires going to it?

If you are trying to close all your windows from the drivers switch pack try closing them with the switches on each door. If that does not work try doing a hard reset and see what takes place.

Something very odd going on. Even just holding key in door lock should close windows after sun roof. Any of the switches should work, too. For none of them to work... weird.

Circuit diagram with wire colours is part of JTIS.

The OP has not posted to the forum since February 2013. It is unlikely that he will respond to your question now...

Yep, this is another one of those unresolved threads. Don't expect to hear back from the original poster, that was several years ago.

Back to your car, wiring diagrams are here:

http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...cal-2005on.pdf

Section 14.1 covers the windows and sunroof. It looks like everything goes through the Driver's Door Module, near the upper left corner of the module. The module has two power sources, both in the primary junction box. If you're not familiar with this, it's a small fuse box just outboard of the US front passenger's feet, just forward of the door. Check fuses F7 and F22. Pages 14 and 15 in the wiring diagram show more details of the box.

Another quick way to test is to try switching the seat/mirror memory function from 1 to 2, or visa versa. If you never switch drivers, you may never use this feature. If the memory function works properly, those two fuses are good and the driver's door module is receiving power as normal.

Also, does anything happen if you try to drive the windows down? I know they are already open, but I wonder if you get any kind of reaction, even if just a quick grunt from the motor and no actual movement. Don't forget to try all windows both from the driver's seat and from each position.

Let us know.

To anyone that runs into this ever. Always reboot the car first, and do a global close with the key by turning the key to lock the doors and hold it. This should close all windows and sunroof. Then you at least wont freak out till you can diagnose the issue cause the windows are down.

Or you have a broken wire in the driver's door-to-cabin pass-thru and that won't work either! See the link:

Like many others including elfe I have a similar very frustrating problem with the windows, no sunroof to worry about though in my car.

Symptoms in my case were:
Drivers main window switch started to gradually fail in window operation.
Firstly on the mostly used drivers window. From working fine to all of a sudden working less and less till eventually not working at all. Towards the end the switch would often drop the glass down but would not work bringing it back up.
Same symptoms soon progressed to the second most used passengers side window. Worked fine then less and less till now not working at all. Towards the end the glass would come down but not go back up.
Then the same in the rear:
First the passengers side rear. From working fine to less and less to now not at all.
Finally the drivers side rear. Working fine then less and less. That side however hasn't completely failed. It still drops the glass from the central switch but won't raise it.. And with that glass down if I keep pressing the central switch down (glass of course cant go anywhere) I can hear a clicking sound from its motor area. I hear no other sound from no other door and I dare say that side will eventually go like all the others.
Frustratingly all the windows (except drivers of course) work perfectly from their own switches.

I have thoroughly read aholbro1's post and stripped the door cavity loom around the hinge but found very little wrong. One black wire near the hinge on the door side had a bit of a crack in the insulation. That's all I could see.
Somehow I don't think it is a wire problem.
I did try a used window switch from the wreckers but that was from a later car (XR-83-14540-BW0 stamped on case). That didn't seem to work at all on the glass. It actually only folded the mirrors from the round knob, but oddly not from the usual 6 o'clock position, only from the 9 as well as the 12 o'clock position..
The wreckers gave me another module to try also however we could not find one the same number as mine:2W4F-13C791-BD. The module they gave me was close :2W4F-13C791-BE but the last letter was an 'E' instead of a 'D'..
It is very possible these parts from the wreckers may be faulty..

Any ideas what I could look at next gents? Fuse 7 and 22 tested okay.

Thanks.

Hi. I had the same problem with my S Type. The windows would work intermittently. After trying the remote close feature with drivers window stuck in the down position, I was left with all four windows stuck down. The global feature and all four switches were dead. After pulling and replacing f4 f5 f6 and f7 in the rear luggage compartment, all windows are now operational.
