[QUOTE=kr98664;1875105]Interesting about the video of the RECM swap, and the guy saying he had no problems doing so. Do you have the link?

I put on my orthopedic thinking cap and got to wondering if such a module really needs to be programmed after installation? JagV8 says so, and I trust him without hesitation. I have no experience swapping modules on my Jag, so I have no firsthand report. But I gets to thinking how come YouTube guy says it's okay, but JagV8 says just]

@ Kr98664: Wow, I am SOOOOO glad I decided to read over this thread as I almost missed this reply. Thank you kindly for the info, especially the Control F bit which will greatly help me in going through the Jag's repair Manual as well. Finding the correct section for the correct year and motor size was almost too tedious to bare, and I just don't have the time for that these days. I guess I need a refresher course on basic commands and control keys. Damned computers, the cause and solution to most of my problems these days.

I agree with you that JagV8 knows what he is talking about. He has that 'Cut the sh**, straight to the point attitude of someone who's been answering what he probably views as redundant and over-simplified questions for a long time. But the optimist in me want's to believe there is a simple solution to this problem, which for all I know this guy in the below video link is counting on and exploiting for likes and views, it wouldn't be the first Misinformation I have found via Youtube. Check it out and see what you think. ....

Actually I am having trouble finding it.. I will ask the Husband tomorrow. Sorry for the anti-climax. SMH

I guess you could swap one RECM with another with the same part numbers and the worst that happens is you have to put the original one back (and you're out some money).

RECM faults are so rare that this is likely a waste of time and money.

Heck, I'm a pessimist and even I think there's a simple solution to all this.

Please refresh our collective memories on the recent symptoms and what has been done so far. All I remember is:

1) A lot of water in the trunk, and something about drying it with towels.

2) A lot of pining for the way cars used to be.

My latest hunch, valid for two days so far (A record for me! Look, a squirrel...) is to check that pesky ground CA156 in the trunk.

I also wonder about your apparently new RECM. How long have you owned the car? If the RECM appears to have been recently replaced, that would indicate the previous owner was having the same problems, and pulled a Steve to convince himself something expensive (the RECM) was at fault. This leads to two possible scenarios, which could both be true, not necessarily an either/or situation:

1) The fault is external to the RECM, as the new one didn't seem to help. Ground CA156 comes to mind, for example.

2) The RECM was not properly programmed when installed. Since it has a rebuild sticker on it, it may not have had any software installed, or perhaps some supposedly universal "plug&play" software developed by an overweight middle-aged guy still living in his parents' basement. Remember, if the root cause was external, you'll also have to fix that, too, in addition to the potential software issue.

So if my current theory is correct (a given, I'm not familiar with the W word..."), what are the next steps?

1) How about tracking down that mythical CA156 just to shut me up?

2) For the possibly bad RECM module or software?:

A) Swallow your pride and take the car to the dealer or Jaguar specialist for proper programming.

B) IF the RECM can be swapped from another similar vehicle (a big IF), track down one on eBay and gamble the $75 or so.

Talking SUCCESS!!!!

Well after figuring we didn't have a whole lot to lose at this point, We bought a used RECM and it worked, our car works and I am happy. My husband disconnected the battery (negative/positive) touch the leads together for a hard reset and then pulled out the new one and replaced it with the used part from ebay after reconnecting the battery it started right up, no restricted performance gas gauge working gates and doors all proper. Now while I am not sure if it matters or not but I made sure the letter beginning the part number I asked about in the previous reply matched the part I was pulling out. Because I noticed the parts all started with either J, G or H throughout my search on ebay. Anyhow Woohoo! My kitty is on the road again, and I couldn't be more thrilled.

Groovy! Glad to hear the great news, and I am ESPECIALLY thankful you came back to update the thread with the gory details. You can't imagine how many threads we see that just kinda fade off, never fully resolved. In forum folklore, wrapping up the loose ends for the benefit of all interested parties is known as "Not being Steve". (Hint, hint, Steve, if you're reading this...)
