Default 2004 S Type R transmission cooler lines

Hi Everyone(128,000Km on STR)
I had a number of problems with transmission.
1-Tranny takes longer to go into 6th gear on highway.
2-Tranny does the surging at 40-60km/hr
3-When commign toa stop and then accelerating, car feels as though tranny would bang into gear like it slipped.Have to be gentle on gas when starting to take off again.

I went to jag dealer and asked him to look at tranny as I noticed some wetness around cooler lines.I also asked to do the computer updates on transmission.

Mechanic advises me that cooler lines are leaking and seal-connector O-Ring needs to be replaced (I think they mean the sleeve). He indicated that these have all been leaking and may result in low fluid level which maybe causing my problems). He indicates I will need 1 litre of trans oil .I asked whether it made snse to do the pan, filter and transmission oil change at the same time.He felt that was a good idea however, would not result in any savings to me in labour which I thought strange?

Trans lines are $251.28 plus tax
Connector O-Ring seal is $11.70 plus tax
1 liter of trans Oil is $79.95 plus tax

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks.Fitz

I also asked about do

Last part of post cut off. You were saying?

The fluid's much cheaper if you hunt around, though your location may reduce your choice.

A shortage would be very bad for the trans.

If you have it changed/filled make sure it's done properly, checking the trans temp as it's done.

Default Hello

Sorry it appears I started to say the same thing at the bottom of the post. Please disregard the last sentence of my post.

Does any one know of better pricing on the cooler lines?
It also seems as though it should be cheaper if I don the cooler lines and pan at the same time with labour.
Any thoughts?

Thanks.Fitz

The cooler lines are dealer only.
What did they quote you for labor to change them? or you doing them yourself.
mine went on my 06 at 40,000 miles, kind of a commonish problem with these cars, happens to a few but enough to make it a common complaint.
Mine looked brand new when they came off but seemed like a production flaw where the rubber meets the steel.
The dealer charged me close to a $1000.00 for parts and labor, it is a bitch of a job and they said even the mechanics hate doing it.
This repair rivals the coolant hose under the supercharger problem for price and frustration to the car owner.
Ext warranty would not cover it due to rubber in the lines.

Default STR-Coolant lines

Thank you for the responces
The dealer is saying 5.5 hrs =$616 plus $259 for lines and $79. for fluid(1 litre). All told about $1,078 to do this change.

I have the same problem on non-R V8... $1K seems right - I was quoted the same price. The worst thing is - you can't check the fluid level... I had the leak with less than 40K miles...

jaguar brought out a adaptive to cure this fault ages ago. on the 2.7 tdv6 the repair is to replace the gear box, oil cooler pipes and the cooler as they suspected coolant was getting into the gearbox oil. for your car the adaptive and a top up of oil should cure the fault. if the pipes are not leaking badly i wouldn't rush to replace them at that cost if there just weeping leave em till they are actually leaking. the wont be a reduction in labour times because they are 2 separate jobs. you don't even have to drain the oil out to replace the cooler pipes. the only thing you have to do that overlaps in the checking of the oil level at the end. The diesel is a different cooler etc and the only model with that (disastrous) problem. Doesn't affect the OP's car.
