I did some searching on a lifeguard 6 fluid substitute and found this post on a different forum. Someone has found a pretty close substitute for the LG6 fluid. Follow the posts to the jackpot.

If it was Mercon SP then it's already been discussed here & elsewhere as not being compatible I think.

I don't know if its been posted anywhere on the forum (I haven't been able to locate a copy), but I found a ZF 6HP26-28 spare parts catalog on the internet.

I don't recall how I found it, but here it is, and hopefully someone will get some use out of it.

It's irrelevant that it's an STR. Same ZF 6HP26 as all other auto S-Types from 2003 (USA).

Lots in the FAQs. To be looking at this thread you've already gone past the FAQs.......

I got a buddy of mine that wants to change the ATF in his 06 3.0, but the fluid at the dealer is $75 a liter. Is this life guard stuff the same as the dealers?

If possible, don't buy it by the liter. Dealer likely the most expensive (does anyone really not know that???). To save $$$ read previous posts
You'll see same trans is in many cars...

So, the first question is do other tranny fluids contain FMs? Because if they don't, you may have no choice but to use LG6 or to live with the hoot...
They also said use it only once. Do not add it again, so make sure that you do not add it, then later use the upgraded fluid with the friction modifier already in.

1 of the trans. cooling lines has a small leak and requires changing, (another s--- job) so I don't have a choice but to get the plug out to replace the leaked fluid.
Wish me luck guys....
matty,

quick tip: before you try to undo the bolts, give them a sharp rap with a drift & hammer if you think they may be 'tight'. A couple of good 'belts' with a resonable weight of hammer will usually do the trick. Use a drift to avoid missing and directly hitting the pan.
