Rear Lamps
Right rear directional feeds back to left rear when lights are on.Ww checked all grounds, switched rear lamp module with a known good one, twice. Checked fuses, and bulbs.
Module says it is programable. can the dealer wipe pogram from a used module and reprogram it for the VIN of this car. Or any other ideas.???

. You cannot wipe them as far as i know. You can buy new and program or buy used. If you buy used make sure all the numbers match exactly and you will be good to go with a reprogram to your car via sdd ids. I went thru this with a park assist module and learned the hard way four used ones later. A scan with sdd would pinpoint things better for you before buying any more parts

Thanks Scott. Does the reprogram have to be at a dealer ? This is a customer's car. I have an S type also. Tried my module with no good results. My car is ok. Have one used that I bought on line., but will have to check the numbers. I believe they were the same from 2000 through 2008.. We don't get into the modern cars in our small shop very often. Technology past me by in 1978. Mostly Pre War through12 cyl. cars.

Either a dealer or someone with the sdd ids on a laptop with the vehicle interface or get set up yourself. The numbers change every few months or so. Even in the same model year. If you are positive it is the module then a new one then programming may be your best bet. If Karl chimes in he will be able to help in truobleshooting. New modules are pricey. You can check jaguarlanderroverclassicparts in thr uk for definite application

Before you go down that path make sure all the bulbs are the correct ones.
There are two types of double filiment bulbs and fitting the wrong one in the cluster can cause the feedback fault you describe.

You probaby already know this but the switching to the rear lamp module is done via switched earths. The live feeds to the module are constant.
Again a blown fuse can cause this same fault so make sure they are all good.

When did the problem start? Were any of the bulbs changed recently? Are you getting any bulb failure messages? Have you checked for water in the trunk, in the spare tire well? Do you like gladiator movies?

Please see these threads with similar symptoms, finally determined to be a blown fuse for other lights. The rear lights can do some funky things when a seemingly unrelated fuse is bad. Also make sure the correct bulbs are fitted, as similar bulbs can be installed but they don't work properly:

Some good discussion here, but unfortunately it's now an unresolved zombie thread:

if it were not for your humor a lot of these threads would be dull like sitting in class. And my bad spelling at times via dyslexia. Always a pleasure Karl
