2005 S-type 4.2 jerks on hard acceleration

Ahh okay. Would you recommend a hard reset first?
The hard reset does nothing to learned values of the ZF.
I just got the car back about two weeks ago and I've driven it in sport mode, etc.
Will it still reset the adaptions If I just drive it gently for the next 400 miles after being driven in sport mode, etc.?

id be guessing if I said it can or can't work around that .
Although Mine returned back to its former exellent self after its episode .
after about 1000km normal but light , no fun driving .
My trans was unrecognisable when it started relearning . So may be your adaptions were reset (as it should have been).
maybe you should ask who ever worked on your car . So you know we're your at .

ZF gearbox "issues"
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ooting-191974/
Gearbox service is due every 70,000 miles.
A site describing one owners experience of the lurch.
Jaguar S-Type Ownership Experience - The ZF LURCH Fault
At 60k miles mine ZF gearbox was thudding hard on certain gear changes although I didn't appreciate the reasons why until later.
A full gearbox service was done at 73k miles and this drastically reduced the thudding/jerking after the service.
Although I can still feel a more harsh change from 5th to 6th occasionally and I can still induce a thud on engaging 1st from a slow rolling start.

Has the transmission fluid been checked or changed? My car did that a couple of times a long time ago. Since I've had the transmission fluid changed it hasn't done that, it usually hesitates a second or so when you floor it, but i guess that's normal. The computerized transmission has to decide what gear to be in and if the motor can be allowed to rev up, I guess.

I've suspected the throttle body but wouldn't that give me problems constantly and not only when flooring it?
I usually release the gas pedal as soon as I feel it happen. I tried sticking it through the other day and it kicked down to gear, and the revs went up with no pull.
It's so hard to explain.

The whole transmission was replaced. I had this symptom before that and I figured it was the bad transmission, but it's still doing it after a new transmission.

If you had the transmission replaced and have problems, I'd bring it back to the shop where the work was done. The biggest complaint I've heard of with the ZF transmission is that it's too slow on take off from a start, yours is like the opposite. Try pressing gas pedal halfway until the car starts moving before accelerating all the way.
