Default 2005 S Type R no crank no start

I Have a S type R that recently developed a problem in which sometimes the car Dash will light up when I turn key to ON position, but when I go to start everything dies (no power at all) and will not start again until “it feels like”. Could be 3 hrs, could be 3 minuets. Most recently it just cut off at an idle & I had to get it towed. Soon as the car was dropped it started right up.

If it won't even crank you're looking at a bad (major) power/ground connection or possibly the ignition switch is faulty.

(Others will have more ideas.)

Just to follow up, the problem didn’t start until a new ecu was installed

Are you talking about the PCM (Powertrain Control Module), the brain for the engine and transmission? If so, who did the work? A dealer or Jag specialist? This was a NEW module, right? Be aware you can't swap in a used module from another car. Details below, copied from another recent thread:

"Here's the info, straight from Jaguar, via JagRepair.com:

http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Trai...es/870B_SG.pdf

Read pages 1-8 through 1-10. It describes how once the VIN is written into memory, it cannot be overwritten.

The note on page 1-10 is even clearer:

"Once a PCM is configured to a vehicle, it cannot be reconfigured to another vehicle."

The same page also mentions: "The new PCM must be configured to the instrument pack as part of the security system set-up. If this is not carried out, the engine will not start."

End copied text.

Another thought is to check the battery ground connection, where the cable bolts to the body. This is a known problem area. The bolt passes through from the trunk into the wheelwell, and contamination can wick up through the bolt threads, causing an intermittent connection. This connection was probably disturbed when the ground cable was disconnected for the recent repairs, making the intermittent connection worse.

It was the ecm actually and it was replaced Bc I kept getting a false 02 sensor reading but it turned out to just be faulty wiring leading to the 02 😫. So that was pretty much done for nothing. Then they told me I needed to get a second key reprogrammed to & that didn’t work either. All done by jaguar dealership btw.

Get a refund! They've done the wrong thing and by the sounds of it caused more trouble as well.

You think I still have grounds to do so after the repairs are already said and done? I was thinking I could at least get some kind of discount since the problem only started once the new ecu was replaced.

Did it start after they repaired it?

Then I'd suspect a loose connection somewhere connected to the ECM change.
Is there an engine light or any codes stored?

What was it? The ECM connector itself?

Not exactly sure. They just said one of the wiring leading to the ecm was damaged so they did the repair for free

Sounds like they charged you for their mistake. The repair to the wiring was the root cause of the problem. That is the actual fix and what you should have been charged for.

They misdiagnosed the problem, threw a computer at the problem and let you pay for it. After you brought the car back and they found the wiring damage, they should have refunded their expensive mistake and charged you only for the wiring repair that it really needed.

Whether you can can get them to refund the difference is the big question...

Couldn’t of said it any better myself. And I’m sure they’ll come up with some excuse as to why the ecm was needed. Water under the bride. I’m just happy she’s back on the prawl.
