Default 2005 S Type rear brake lamp failure

Hello all,
I have a 2005 S-type 4.2L that I'm having rear brake light problems with. The passenger and the driver side rear brake lights don't work but the rear braking bar works as does the reverse, running and fog rear lights. I've changed the bulbs, reseated them twice and the fuses twice as well but still no brake lights. Not sure what's next to do. I'm now getting the message of left and right brake lamp failure on the dash. Ran a diagnostic but I'm stuck. Love working on my car but I'm stumped. Don't know what to look at now. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Hope

Have you changed the bulbs? If so, are you aware they are not the kind most cars use i.e. might you have fitted the wrong ones?

Hi JagV8, I'm curious about this "type of bulb" comment - could you explain a little more please?

Wrong wattage, wrong number of filaments, wrong fittings. You'd be surprised at the mistakes made!

Here in the states the big box auto part stores Auto Zone, Discount Auto, Advanced Auto etc. do not carry the bulbs in stock.

Best to purchase off ebay and save some cash.
