Thumbs up 2005 STR engine swap

i have a 2005 STR and the engine blew. I've looked into new and used 4.2L V8 (stock engine) has anyone heard of putting in a different engine? ive never really liked the engine anyways. I had everything done to the engine that could be done and still wasn't satisfied with the power. I want something with more aftermarket parts available.

No, it's a modern hi-tech car there is no realistic option other than putting the same motor back in. The electronics are too integrated, I really doubt you could get anything else to work.

i still owe 11k on it. where can I sell a car with no engine for that kind of money? if I replace the engine should I go new or used engine? I have just under 80,000 miles on the car and plan on selling it as soon as the engine is in. quoted $10,500 for new and around $4,000 used.

put the cheapest used engine you can find back in, and sell it. Buy an E55 AMG instead.

You already owe 11K on the car, and it will cost another 4-5K to put a used engine in. After all that hassle, you will still not be satisfied with the engine in the car.

So, you are probably going to sell it, with or without an engine. In any event, you are going to lose money. I would guess you would lose less money if the car had a used engine, more if it had no engine and more if it had a new engine. Bad news, that's tough luck.

Possible demographic issue. Those XFR's have 4 years and counting till they join our fate.

Just got it out of the shop for new cats, intake manifold elbow and new coolant and oil hoses. Picked it up at 5pm and the engine blew around 10pm that night. I don't know what to think, id hate to think they forgot to put oil I the damn thing but the owner of the shop is a childhood friend of my VP.
