Talking 2005 STR - New Member from Rochester NY

Hi...

New Member from Rochester NY, First time Jaguar owner, but not new to British cars.

2005 Jaguar S-Type "R"
Exterior: Ebony
Interior:Champagne
4.2L V8 Supercharged

Options
Navigation

Full service history from previous owner. All services were done at the Jaguar dealer.

I need to check if any TSB's are outstanding.

I have had it a few days and really enjoy driving this car. Smooth power delivery, I have never driven a car that has done this so well, and the power just keeps coming. The supercharger can really kick when you want / need it.

The ride is very nice and the cabin is well made, no creaks or squeaks and very little noise at highway speeds. No wind noise or tires noise, just perfect.

I have not had the chance to drive on some twisty roads, but later today I will have the chance too, since we are taking a drive this afternoon.

Wecome vampyre!!! Congrats on your STR ownership. There is alot of info in the FAQ section above.

I would post your introduction in the "new member section" as well, Jim will upgrade you to Full membership so you can enjoy all the benefits from this great site! Or you will need to make 10 posts.

Rick, thanks for the info.. I have already printed a lot of the FAQs and will spend some time under that car today.

I want to check the transmissions linkage. I don't have any issues, but want to make sure it is tight.

I have posted in the new member area but didn't get any replies.

Hmmm I missed your intro in the New Member section.

Oh well a couple more posts and your in....

Only takes a few minutes to check those linkage bolts. Take a look at your electrical connection to the transmission (other side of the gearbox) for any signs of drippage.

^ Mods! Oh yes, me love mods!
I am no stranger to a wrench and a beer.

Where to start?

Should I reset the ECU, by disconnecting the battery and shorting the leads.

Is it worth doing so the ecu can learn our(wife and I) driving style?

I put the stock tires and rims on today, and it I really liked the way it drove, The PO had a set of 20" Starr Racing rims, nice, but I like the stock tire / rims setup better.

Vampyre, to have a taste of what a few enhancements can do: Install a fresh fuel filter, remove the solenoid operated "wide-open throttle airbox baffle" (one screw and we're not sure if this will enhance anything except reduce the weight of the car by a few onces) on the lower portion of the airbox, drop in a K&N a/f, pop on a "Mafioso" air intake elbow (all performed may realize a gain of 15 hp). Perform a hard re-set of the ECU, drive normally for 300 miles in "Normal" trans. mode then hard in "Sport"; learning later shift points....

Welcome. For outstanding TSBs etc you need to ask a trustworthy & competent jag dealer. Some may be due but not free.

bfsgross - those mods sound just right, I can't wait to start working on it.

Jagv8 - I'll have to call the local dealer and see what they can offer.

^ That is where I would be going, the only recall I see paper work for is J004 done at 57K miles at the PO's dealer.

Most would not be recalls. There are other categories, such as those to be done when the car is in (such as for a service). Whether you want those done is up to you.

You can find the various types that COULD apply to your car in summary form for free using google and the full PDF on here (if you're lucky) or sometimes the net but otherwise TOPIx. See this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-05-str-56728/

A dealer may choose not to reveal any but recalls, I suppose. (Dealers are franchises and very definitely of variable quality.)
