I'm going to check these out tomorrow but just wanted some opinions:
Better to get the supercharged s type instead?
Better to get the manual X type?
- which one is a real Jag?
- better Highway driver?
- better acceleration?
- winter driver is obviously the AWD
- dependability?
- are both ford motors?
- collectables?

- which one is a real Jag? Both
- better Highway driver? S Type
- better acceleration? S Type V8
- winter driver is obviously the AWD? 3.0 litre X Type the best of the bunch, not sure if you had the diesel in your market. Stay away from 2.1 front wheel drive. Lots of quality design input went into the X Type and it's a premium car but was aimed at a different segment of the market (ironically the younger X Gen). The S Type's a different class of car to the X Type.
- dependability? Both
- are both ford motors? V6 only part Ford and V8, no. Built in Ford plant UK, Wales
- collectables? Long-term, yes, as both discontinued models. The modern S Type is almost becoming a classic of its own, entering its 24th year. Any S Type V8 a lovely car with likely long term collectability. S Type R the most collectable by far for obvious reasons but also the models production numbers were low (at least by Audi, MB and BMW standards), buy now if the plan is for long term ownership as the going's still cheap.

The S-type was built to a higher design spec, an example being that the S-type has removable covers under the rear seat to allow access to the fuel pump and sending unit; the X-type requires dropping the tank, or cutting into the floor-pan to grain access (which is not the best solution, but often done to save money).
I have an S-type and live in Montana; it will test your wintertime driving skills, but a good set of winter tires help significantly. In terms of aesthetics, the X202 and later is by far the prettier car (and I am sure some will disagree) with a more spacious interior.
Good luck in your decision!
