The trans should be fine. It handles way more power in the Bentley continental . Also the ts takes less power to turn and also puts out less heat so it is much more efficient even at the same boost levels.

Like qwiketz, I see it differently - the STR was expressly designed by Jaguar to fill the void caused by relatively under-powered S-types that had the retro-Jag look but were really not race cars.

Below is a question to Avos from Bacardi 151 on the subject of a twin-screw S/C, followed by Avos' answer:

Bacardi.. "ZF transmission, can it handle a twin screw as is? If not, can it be beefed up?"

Avos.. "So far so good, there are a couple now that run with at least 130+ for some time (soon some with higher outputs), so in first instance no need yet to work on the transmission. The 6hp26 seems pretty strong, but please note this is for street driving (so short power runs, with enough time to cool down), prolonged high power track usage is something else again of course, although here the twin-screw will excel as it requires less engine power and produces less heat.".

It's not actually the same trans in the Bentley, though it's similar.

Has anybody considered any of the upgrades available for the 6r80 on the 2012 Mustang?

Default STR transmission

Happy Memorial Day!
If you check Wikipedia on the ZF6HP26 which is in the STR it states that it is rated for a maximum input torque of 600.It does'nt say anything about horsepower though.
I also found a couple of different articles along the way that state that this trans. is also used in BMWs and Maseratis and the new Hyundai Genesis amongst others.
Have a good weekend:

'600' is in newton meters- that's about 440 ft/lb. Quoting a maximum horsepower rating for a transmission is rarely done as it is an irrelevant and misleading parameter. Input speed for a cyclical gear train is (almost) never an limiting factor

Default STR trans.

Thanks Mikey. If 440Ft.lb.torque is all this tranny can handle then what the heck are we doing adding all of this torque and horsepower to our cars.I'd love to have the car perform better, but I don't want to destroy the trans in the process! So what's the answer to the problem?
Thanks:

The last time (A) the 600Nm / 440 came up I think people just decided either not to go for more power or to risk it and see how long the trans actually lasts.

I haven't seen engineering details, I mean how long can it stand that TQ, when (at all speeds/gears/what), does it send TQ-reduce (B) requests if it's unhappy, and so on.

(A) it's not like this is the first by any means!

(B) via the CAN bus

I'm not so sure that the stats on the Tranny are accurate. Here is an article that was published at the time my care was originally purchased and believe me you, it was a deciding factor.... I didn't purchase my car from the said dealership but did inquire.

I was told there was no transmission upgrade required to get the statistics that are available in this article (Copy and paste the URL). This car received a dealership upgrade and the foot lbs of torque were 520 after his upgrade. it's one of the reasons I purchased the car as it was not as powerful as an E55 or M5 but oh..... it looked soo much better. BTW, I owned a E55, nice car but overly heavy. Please look at this original information statistically and read the article in the pasted in link. I love discussions.....

Performance
Peak Power: 390 bhp @ 6100 rpm
Peak Torque: 399 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm
0-60 mph: 5.3 sec
Top Speed: 155 mph (electronically limited)
Fuel Economy: 17 city/ 24 highway

I'm a wizard at finding information and facts. I don't know what kind of transmission is installed in our cars but will start the research on that also. Here is a document supporting the 444 foot lbs of torque based on the model number provided for the transmision.

http://akpp-city.ru/pdf/6HP26-28_Catalog.pdf

I find it interesting that they don't mention Jaguar, but the do Mention BMW and Audi.

I'd love be a fly on the wall after the transmission in this car goes bang and the owner wants some factory warranty..........

So, the STR (and Maserati Quattroporte) use a ZF 6HP26, and the Bentley uses a ZF 6HP26A. My suggestion for Avos:

- Befriend a design engineer in ZF.
- Discuss the weather.
- Buy a couple of beers.
- Discuss cars.
- Buy more beers.
- Discuss the difference beween the ZF6HP26 and the 26A.
- Get the part number and include with the twin-screw kit.

Read the article, the guy seems a bit off. 16psi and some other mods isn't gonna give you 100hp.

But the dealership had some pleasant surprises for me. They do custom upgrades right there, under warranty. One upgrade they convinced me to get that I am very glad for was a 100HP upgrade that involves upgrading the exhaust system, super-charger pulley, and replacing the intake. They also tweaked it so that the super charger is doing 16PSI instead of the base 10. Bear in mind, all this is under warranty which made a big difference (and since I lease cars, in 3 years I'll be looking at something else no doubt).

I don't know what "Tweaking" is by definition in reference to the supercharger to get 16PSI out of it. The mods sound very much like everything we're referring to.

I just posted this article as I'd bookmarked it some time ago (a long time ago). I am, however, convinced there is some programming that the dealership can do to make the car perform different.

Since bringing mine here to MD, Manhattan Jaguar/Bethesda Jaguar (or whatever they are calling themselves these days), surely did something a few times to which the service manager informed me that he'd reflash the code and then test drive my car "REALLY HARD" to open it up.

I am due for my 60k maintenance soon and I'll be sure to ask what specifically he was referring to by the statement.

No way did you get 100hp from those upgrades. I'm sorry. I used to own an '03 Cobra, well actually I leased it, but still. I beat the hell out of that car. Upgrade the pulley on those things and you will get 70hp. The pulleys and mods for those cars are insane compared to these blowers that we have. I spent 3000 bucks and had it putting out 580 at the wheels on the dyno. Try doing that with these Jags. These cars are not meant to be dyno queens or 500+ hp cars. Go buy a '10+ XFR if that is what you want, and thats what I plan on doing in about a year or so.

400 rwhp is achievable with the STR though 400 chp is also enjoyable.

For the record, I've made no claims that I've gotten 100hp in any fashion, form or otherwise with this vehicle. I'm merely referring to the article provided. I will say, I am 101% sure the dealer has different program(s) with different settings they can load into the STR's and there is a difference in how it behaves with one program -vs- the other.

hmm.

I don't believe dealers in general have any such program. I'm under the impression that one or two foreign (Dutch/Italian) firms can or may be able to do some PCM tweaks but those won't be available from most (if any) dealers.

(And of course that car in the article didn't get an extra 100hp - as if!)

Well folks,I had my car dynoed today at Krazy House Customs in N.J.I'm not too freaking happy. After ECU Tuning Groups' ECU tune and smaller pulley at about $1300.00,Mina Galleries cold air kit at $135.00 and the removal of the center resonators replaced with an X pipe and Magna Flow boxes at about $350.00,my car was dynoed on a Mustang MD500 dynamometer ( very accurate machine)at 311 horsepower at about 5800 rpm and 337 torque at about 4075 RPM.How damn bad is that? The tech said to multiply the dyno results by 25% to get the flywheel figures and it's depressing.388.75 HP which is under manufacturers specs.and 412.5 trq.which is right at manufacturers specs. What the F##K?I'm sorry I was arguing with everyone about ECU Tuning Group.I will be giving them a call real soon!Even without the tune though, pulley, exhaust and cold air kit and no gains?Jesus!
Anyone know what gains I'd get from a 3lb.pulley over a 1.7?
This is to 08ZO6.The XFR goes for about $90,000.It runs the 1/4 in about 12.7.I believe the CTS-V does the 1/4 in about 12.2,the ZL1 Camaro with automatic trans. does it in 12.0 (ZL1 manual in 12.1) and the new 2013 Shelby GT 500 in 11.5 and they're all around $30,000 less expensive.I know the XFR is a beautiful Jag,but it's also like the STR not a race car and I guess never will be.I guess we'll have to either be happy with very high 12s or low 13s or move on to a different breed.
How about just swapping the engine, tranny and rear from the GT500 into our cars.Would'nt that be something? Unfortunately I don't have enough money to make that dream come true.Oh well!
So what about those dyno results? Have a great day everyone.

Not the news I wanted to hear, but the presence of all those other mods suggest that there is another problem somewhere, either on the STR or the dyno itself. Am interested to hear what ECU Tuning have to say.

I will be doing a dyno test before AND after the 1.7 lb pulley/ECU tuning, assuming I go ahead with the ECU after your bad news.
