Default 2006 S-Type wheels

I’m looking for 2 wheels for my 2006 S type Jaguar. Searching ebay I see there is adifference between the 2004, 2005, 2006 and the

JAGUAR STYPE 2000,2001,2002,2003 & 2008 OEM ALLOY WHEEL 17 X 7 1/2, 10 Spokes.

Comments please on what the difference is and why they are not compatible.

>Comments please on what the difference is and why they are not compatible.

There have been many diameters and styles of wheels for S-Types, but they should all be compatible.

At the bottom of this message is a Jaguar wheel-fitting chart I've used.

The only problem I'm aware of with S-Type wheels is the various diameters and fitting over the large brakes of the STRs.

I replaced my original wheels with 18" XF wheels with not problems.

Don't forget that the STRs had staggered wheels with wider ones on the rear.

Ya, but he's look'n for 17" wheels so I don't think he has an STR or will run into large wheel issues.

As the OP says 2 wheels are wanted, a lot of those are not appropriate.

If your car is a 2004 and up,(VIN --M45255 and up), there were 5 different styles of 7.5x17in wheels used. All or any can be used. In my view you car will look better if all 4 wheels are the same style!!!
You can see drawings of the different style of wheel in the Jaguar EPC(electronic parts catalogue) which you can download from this forum.

The EPC does not show any 17 inch wheels for cars earlier than M45255.

Na, olde school ways: if the wheels are all the same size, and you have two different styles, pair them on each side.

So, digging into wheels once again, offset is fairly crucial for loads on hub/wheel bearings. I think the specs on an X-type, eve though on the above list seems similar, would be greater on the front/AWD X than on our S. As Zappa sang, I may totally wrong, but FWD offsets are fairly flat faced to fit the CV joints.

Anyone have an incisive take on S wheel inter-changeability?

Distilling down the above chart, it seems like and S,F and 2010-2015 XJ fit; any 04-14 XJ&XJ-R; '12-14 XK&XK-R&R-S; and also, incredibly, X-types...

X-Type wheels are liable to be too weak. Many are not big enough, depending on your car whose details you failed to put in.

>X-Type wheels are liable to be too weak.

Never heard that before... I'm quite sure that Jaguar factory wheels are Jaguar factory wheels, they just differ in size and style. You can use practically any factory wheel the same or larger than what came on your car, but watch for clearance if you go too big. What you can't really do is go down in size (i.e., diameter) since the brake rotors, etc., may have increased so the wheels won't fit.

I replaced my factory 18s with factory 18s from an XF.

X-Type is a much lighter car with far lower HP and weaker brakes so all the stresses on its wheels are far less. The wheels are designed with the actual max stresses in mind so are substantially weaker.

You can second-guess Jaguar engineers if you know a lot but otherwise are liable to make errors.

JagV8 is right. Every wheel has a design load rating. Depending on the weight of the car and the speed it can achieve it will need wheels certified for a particular car. The Germans do this properly and when you go to buy an aftermarket wheel, you have to make sure it is certified for your car.

Obviously, car designers do this too but they just don't give you any information about it. Smaller, less powerful cars will need, or even desire, lighter wheels to maximize performance and minimize consumption. These may not be strong enough for a faster and heavier car. Therefore, using a wheel designed for a smaller car may not be a sound move.

>JagV8 is right. Every wheel has a design load rating.

Then just search for a set of Jaguar wheels for either your car or a larger one. That is, don't use X-Type wheels, but XF wheels work fine (I should know, they're what I'm using on my car).

You should be safely able to use the same diameter wheels from S-Type, XF, or XJ.

>XF is just a modified S-Type...

Tis true, but I think they started putting much bigger wheels on them. Early on the offered the 18" but by 2012 or so I think they'd all gone up to 19s and maybe 20s were offered as options or were stock on the Rs...
