Default 2006 STR wheel sizes

Hi all
having just acquired my S type R I’ve noticed it has 19” rims.
which is fine however I’m led to believe that the front size tyre should be 35 profile and the rear 30?.. seems unusual to me can someone confirm this and also qualify why this is?..
thanks
Frank

Welcome to the forums Frank,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to S-Type forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

With optional factory 19" rims, the '35' and '30' profile refers to the tyres sidewall height as a percentage of the tyres width.

The front tyres are narrower than the rears, therefore to achieve the same overall rolling diameter as the '30(%)' rear tyre profile the '35(%)' front tyre profile is required .

For example, the standard S-TYPE R tyre sizes are 245/40/18 on the front, 275/35/18 on the rear.

Hope this helps, my explanation is probably not the best !

The STR uses wider wheels on the rear.

I think the 'Barcelona' 19" wheels were standard fit on the last 2006 S-type R's? Or at the least many of them had them fitted from new.
As far as I know the tyre size from the factory are as follows:

Front: 245/35 -19 (On 8" wide rims.)
Rear: 275/30 -19 (On 9.5" wide rims.)

It should be noted that the 'Barcelona' 19" wheels were also available as an option on the rest of the S-type range, but unlike the 'R' the rim sizes were the same 8" on the front and back.

The 19" front tyres and wheels are only 2mm smaller in total outside diameter to the 18" ones.
The 19" rear tyres and wheels are exactly the same outside diameter as the 18" ones.
