2007 jaguar s-type wont run after oil change!
Hello tOday I decided to do an oil change I bought some royal purple and a K&n oil filter I drained what I thought was the oil plug but didn't Notice that it wasn't covered by the cover that I removed I changed the oil filter and put in the oil and started the car a small nOise was noticeable but didn't think anything about it car was sounding fine other than that when I went to Put into gear the car didn't reverse than I got gear fault bOx message so I turned the car off turned it back On and as sOon as I Put into gear the message popped up again and this time the check engine and the car slightly mOved when I hit gas and the rpms reved up high enough could I have accidentally drained the transmission fluid, the plug I drained was towards the back and said open for oil and drain only, I had to use an Allen wrench to open and it was Plastic the fluid didn't look like transmission fluid but right now I don't know what to do thanks in advance for the help

You drained the transmission fluid. There should be a fill plug on the side of the transmission above the pan. You need to put transmission fluid in there and also check your engine oil level. If you added a bunch of oil without draining any, its likely way overfilled.
For the transmission you can use Dextron as a temporary solution if you must get the car to move and its available at most parts places, but I would change it out as soon as possible.

You'll have the ZF 6HP26 trans and it has a VERY exacting fill process and fluid type. Covered in the FAQs. I would NOT use Dexron.
If you added engine oil to the engine check the level and if over Max then do not run the engine at all until you drain it back to Max (or empty and refill).
Get yourself a JTIS too (cheap @ ebay).

I can only agree with the fellow members, you drained the transmission!
Dexron is NOT the way to go either.

The motor oil drain plug is located on the oil pan which is located under the large black plastic belly pan (which has to be removed) inbetween the front wheels.

I just thought I would add the extended information to let the OP know that the refill procedure for the transmission is NOT as easy as say changing motor oil.
I do feel for the OP and his mistake though.
Wow. Some days I just have to shake my head and wonder. What a costly, potentially catastrophic mistake. For his car's sake, I think he'd better have the car flatbedded to a decent transmission shop. I doubt very seriously that he has the skills to pull off a proper ZF ATF refill....

Yeah I'm not goin anywhere near that, a local jaguar specialist shot said they charge arOund 120 to 140 for a drain and fill and told me to have it towed there so that's what I'm gonna do they are booked until Tuesday though so he told me to drain the excess oil and dO the oil change before because they don't use synthetic oil on jaguars because it's not "speced" for it, Is it possible something could of messed up from running the car for about 5 minutes and than putting it in reverse turning the car off and doin it again, again thanks for all the helpful info and thanks joycesjag for the pic I seen that bolt with a little blue around it but didn't think it was it because I didn't see the oil pan

You need 5 litres of trans fluid to get back to correct level. You didnt hurt the engine or trans. Experiance=something you get 5 seconds after you needed it. Its not hard to do the refill on the trans if you buy and pressure/vac tank like from northern tools or harbour freight to pump in the oil into the trans. Just pump in 2 litres, then start the engine and pump in the rest till it runs out and quits dripping then close it off. If the trans is cold when you do this it takes 5-10min to get to the correct temp. It will be in range for the correct level and you dont need a special temp gun to do it.(ive done this many times and checked to verify with a temp gun). It is pretty messy and the trans fluid smells like cat ****

Thanks brutal but I think I'm gonna leave it up to the shop for the transmission fluid I'm just gonna drain all the oil and buy put in some new, what do y'all recommend I had put the royal purple 5w 30 because the cap said Castrol 5w 30 but I live in Austin Texas should I go with 10w 30? And should I stick with the royal purple or what other oil is good? And the oil filter I just installed yesterday will it be good to use again or should I not risk anything and go with a new one again it's a K&n thanks for all the help again

There's no need for fancy boutique oils like Royal Purple or similar unless it helps you sleep better at night. Look in your owner's manual and decide which viscosity suits your climate the best. It's that simple unless you want to make it complicated. Same comments on the filter.

Oh and I left the car at my friends house since that's where I was changing the oil so I haven't drained it to regular level below the max level is it necessary to do it even though I'm not gonna turn it on or can I leave it like that until Saturday morning when I have time during the day. I don't want to leave it past the max level if something can mess up sorry for all the newb questions

just take the new oil filter off drain in the bucket and reinstall. no reason to waste more money. i like and use royal purple and amsoil too. but I prefer free mobil 1 when i can get it
I use synthetics from either amsoil or RP in everything but my engines. diffs, transfere cases, trans. those fluids stay in there forever. the oil i just use conventional and change every 5k. just to expensive=benefit for the regular oil change to use those. everything else is good for 100k before I do them again kapeesh
