3.0 intake elbow...

I'm working on custom fabbing a intake elbow for my 3.0 but before I move forward I have a few questions that someone may be able to answer for me. I'm a Airframe Engineer, can build about anything out of Composites or Metals, but need some help with flow dynamics.
The 3.0 has a 2.5 inch TB with a 3 inch MAF. My question is what would be better, a 3inch intake reduced to 2.5 inch just before the TB thus increasing velocity but disrupting the flow, or a 2.5 inch intake with consistent flow? This would mean the intake would be reduced just after the MAF possibly disrupting the readings?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

O.K. well I guess thier is no inputs or opinions so I'm going with the 3"intake reduced to 2.5" at the TB. I just don't want any reversion on the MAF if I reduce it there.
I'm going to include pictures of the build as I progress if any of you are interested this will be EASILY reproduced as a DYI with some basic tools.

Sorry I just noticed this. I believe you're making this far too complicated. For example, for reversion to be in play, you'd find it necessary to have such air speed that you'd have to be traveling at several times the speed limit.
You can find lots of info on this subject if you go to the LVC forum and look in the sections focused on the Lincoln LS.

I am not familiar with the layout of the pipework on this model?
To keep turbulence and therefore resistance to a minimum I would go for the longest taper I could from 3" to 2.5" over the straightest part of the tubing that I could find and keep a fixed diameter within 5" from any bends.
If you have a scaled line drawing of the plumbing I would be happy to give you my 2c.
For a 3 litre engine @ 3000rpm consider an airflow of 75 l/s through the tubes.
Eddie.

Outstanding info. Thanks.
cammerfe thank you for the advise but I greatly disagree about reversion. I'm a aivid Rider and that is a huge issue with bikes sometimes even at idle.
Anyways, I've already fishished the build, physically anyways, still got the cosmitcs to worry about. But over all I'm very happy with it. Noticble throttle responce improvment, and after a few more miles I'll do some math on MPG. I didn't do this for the negligable HP gains, more for economics.
