Default 4 pin Ignition Coils for 4.2L Jags

Well, my STR is edging close to being a decade old and I am going though her trying to do a general refresh of wear items.

One thing that has stopped me cold are the ignition coils. Good Lord they are spendy! I want to change them all at once along with the spark plugs(just the way I do things).

So there are three major manufacturers I have found for these style coils

Standard Motors Products: part# UF519
Airtex wells: part# 5C1420
Jag OEM: part# AJ810445 (most likely a denso coil)

**That is is in order of ascending price range**

I have not been able to find any information about this coil cross-referencing to a Ford part#.

Best price I have found has been in the low $40ish range making changing all eight coils out tip the scale at close to $400 once sparkplugs are factored in.

My two main questions are: does anyone have a Ford part cross-reference (even though I kind of doubt they are much cheaper)

Second, since this coil crosses to several different Jags, I was wondering if some here would like to see how far we could get with a group buy, either through one of our sponsors or through some other online source.

I agree the jag ones are/were almost certainly Denso.

Maybe Ford Thunderbird (I believe some model(s) use the same Denso PCM) but also how about Land Rover? Their ZF fluid is cheap so maybe also coils.......

In my neck of the woods the Jag dealer and the Land Rover dealer are the same...

Oh. But...... they will still have different part numbers and in my experience different prices for what are actually the same items.

Standard Motors Products produces a coil for the Land Rover line that looks nearly identical to the UF519, but the part number is UF533. No idea what the differences are, but since they are an aftermarket supplier they would not make a totally different part with a different part# if the UF519 would work in the same application. I guess its possible they are interchangeable(they are both for a supercharged AJ-V8s), seems like a company as big a standard motors would have figured that out though

Sounds more trouble than it's worth.

If it works it would save me 80 bucks on changing all 8 coils.

Did anyone ever try the UF519 vs. UF533 for 4.2 Jaguar?

I ordered SMP coils(UF519) from e-bay and the coils came in SMP Intermotor boxes.
When I opened the box the part inside was in unopened Jaguar OEM package, part #AJ810445.The part has FoMoCo stamped on it and was made in Japan.I paid $38 per coil.

Are you sure you need to change them?

I don't know why but my 2005 STR at 120K+ miles has all 8 original coils. My wife's 2003 Lincoln LS V8 Sport has had 13 new coils so far at 104K+ miles. All of them under Lincoln's extended warranty for coils/cam cover gaskets/spark plugs. Lincoln did a great thing and added a special 10 year/100K miles warranty on just those items since they had so many failing.

I can't say for sure but to me it looks like the coils in my STR are better quality than the ones in the LS.

I would leave them alone unless you have trouble. They are very easy to change and won't leave you stranded if they fail.
