ABS/DSC gearbox faults

ABS/DSC gearbox faults
I just joined the forum. First time owning a jag. In June 2019 I bought this 2004 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 L. The kid that owned it had not driven it for over 6 months. It's sat in his driveway over winter. I could not test drive it because the brakes were out. I took it into my mechanic and he replaced a brake line in the rear. I was able to start driving it for the first time. Had no issues. December 21st I ran it through a car wash. Drove it home and parked it in the garage temperature was around 40 degrees. The next day drove it to a destination one hour away. Vehicle sat for approximately 3 hours. Upon leaving applied brakes when leaving the parking lot. I heard what sounded like the ABS was activating in the right front wheel. Continue to drive and the ABS fault and DSC came on. It was shifting gears fine but within a 3-4 block drive, felt like the right rear and maybe left Wheels also were breaking. It did this twice and then the gearbox fault came on. Pulled into a gas station shut it off. Started back up and upon leaving the gas station the same thing happened. Because I was in traffic I had to continue and it felt like it was in 3rd gear. The breaks did not grab any more but the vehicle stayed in 3rd gear. After getting out of traffic pulled over and put it in park. When putting the car in reverse it really went in hard. Meaning it lunged in reverse and somewhat lifted the rear rear end. I was able to drive it back in 3rd gear. After getting home shut it off and about an hour later started driving again. Had no problems for 2 days. Then yesterday it started up again. Now it does everything I've said previously every time I start driving. I shut it off then start it up and only the ABS fault comes on. Start driving in 1st gear then everything starts all over. I only get about 30 to 50 feet when the DSC fault comes on immediately followed by the rear braking. Sorry for being so lengthy but I want to get as much information out as I can. I've done some reading online but I'm just confused as to what it could be. The kid did not have the battery that was called for. That one was holding 11.9 volts overnight. Replaced the battery with correct one but it did not change anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So my ‘06 STR has been driving great since I fixed a bunch of crap but last week coming home around a sweeping left curve the abs or traction control started kicking in. Only on lefts. Not rights.
took the rear passenger wheel off and found the caliper was leaking and the brake pads and rotor and everything was coated with brake fluid.
When first got thd car home in june i found the previous owners garage put the rear pads in reversed. So the pads locked up and smoked the calipers.
something to look at!

Without the codes or the use of the Jaguar diag. software it will be a shot in the dark, but one common fault causing ABS then DSC fault is the ABS sensor on the rear hub.
The sensors can fail, and the reactor ring can rust so it touches the sensor.
Curb side rear ones are usualy the first to give problems.
You could try changing the sensor, (it is quite easy and they are not expensive) and/or cleaning up the ring on the hub.
However without the fault codes it is shot in the dark and could be a waste of time.

If your mechanic has a Snap-on Solus. with the latest software updates, the engine and transmission codes should be able to be read. Some Snap-on users report that setting the diagnostic tool to a Lincoln LS seems to work on the early cars.
If you own an older Jaguar, you should also own a good Jaguar specific code reader, an iCarsoft i930, for example. I have the iCarsoft LR-II and find it indispensable for identifying and curing issues on my X202 S-type.

I took my Jag to my mechanic for diagnosis. He said it was the drivers rear wheel speed sensor. I ordered 2 for $22.00 from carparts.com. Put one in.... PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! My mechanic didn't charge me anything for the Diagnostics but he did charge me $84 for drilling out and replacing the bolt that I snapped off when I tried to get the wheel sensor off. LOL
