Default ABS and DSC light came on.

Interesting to see when I started the car to go out today the abs warning light came on first and then followed by the DSC light as I pulled away.

My next step will be to buy a code reader with abs reading ability.
I like the look of the innova 3100 but I've only seen them on sale in the US. Fine as long as they can read uk spec cars?

I've been reading up about the reluctor rings and associated issues using the site search.

As the wheelnuts are coming off next week, that gives me a good opportunity to have a good look and clean inside each hub/brake.
If the rings aren't broken I'll try cleaning them up in situ.
I've got a Dremmel multi tool which I've found to be invaluable in that type of work using copper or steel wire brushes.

But the range of information available on the forum is amazing.

I've got a 3 foot breaker bar and a 6 sided 1/2" drive socket for the wheelnuts. It's a shame I can't put any heat on the nuts because of the proximity of the alloy wheel. Most nuts and bolts give in to the breaker bar. Here's hoping none snap!

When you have your wheels off, be sure to remove each wheel speed sensor (held in place by just one 8mm bolt) and scrub it with a dish-soap-and-water mixture using an old toothbrush. Keep your thumb over the harness plug connection area so no water gets in there while you're scrubbing. The sensors collect dirt and grime as the years pass, and this often causes the ABS/DSC fault messages to show up on the dashboard....

Will do that, thank you very much.
I've got a few old toothbrushes for cleaning jobs on the bike.

I was looking at a video showing how to replace the abs reluctor ring on the driveshaft by a company in UK that makes the rings.
Worth sharing maybe....

It could be the rings but see what you find first. My bet is either dirt causing your problem or a bad sensor.

Rarely is the reluctor ring the problem. Usually it's dirty sensors, frayed wiring harnesses, or a failed sensor....

I think it might be, as I'm seeing a fair amount of brake dust on the wheels from 1 weeks use. But if not then new sensors are not costly.

The seller fitted new front pads for the MOT just before he sold it. So it could be a build up on the front.

When I was out in it briefly today at crawling speed in traffic and gently applying and gently releasing them there is a noise that sounds like sticking or just clag build up. I know that noise from bikes and cars.

I think I will replace the front discs while I'm on the job. Not a major job but I hope the uk weather gets warmer soon.

OEM Jaguar brake pads throw out a LOT of dust, perfectly normal. I'm still betting that your reluctor rings are fine....

I hope so.
This is my 2nd week with the car and I've got to be honest, I am 100% delighted with the way it drives and feels on the road. It requires a different driving manner because it feels so comfortable and planted on the road I don't feel the need to hurry.
The comfort is a revelation.
We were advised to go for the S type in preference to the X type for the comfort, from a husband and wife who have both.
