Default ABS Fault indicator and more.

My 2003 S-Type recently displayed "ABS Fault - DSC not available, so I took it to my local dealer. He said the nearside rear ABS drive-shaft had rusted through and broken, so he replaced it.

I got the car back and drove it for 20 miles where it was fine, but when I pulled away from a roundabout, I noticed some juddering, then the engine management indicator came on, followed by Parkbrake fault, then ABS fault again. After a further couple of miles, the speedo dropped to zero where it stayed for the rest of the journey.

When I got home, I switched off the ignition and restarted the engine. The speedo then worked OK again but the ABS fault indicator was still on. What's going on?

i would have thought you'd have noticed a drive shaft snapping !!!!!

you have classic symptoms of a failing battery.

a search will find plenty of info

It's worth reading the codes because the speedo issue is unusual.

I sure hope a Jaguar dealer did not make that idiotic statement!!

There is no ABS drive shaft.

I would use a different repair shop. Most likely a ABS sensor but please follow up on the battery advice above.

It's really amazing how much a weak battery can mess with the S Type.

Sorry if I got the description wrong, I'm not at all technical. I charged the battery for 24hrs as I suspected that, but it's made no difference. A faulty ABS sensor sounds like it might be the culprit then. I'll get back to the dealer.

Try to clean and unplug then replug the ABS sensors. It has been reported that can help. Plus it's cheap and easy to do even if it does not fix the problem.

I would have the battery load tested to be 100% sure.
