There are usually two warning lights. One for the ABS and one for the DSC. Under normal conditions, both should go out after any initial checks. From your photo, we see that the DSC light (skidding car) is on. This means that the DSC is switched off or there is a fault. It is possible that the tester is seeing this light and thinking "no ABS available". There should be associated messages in the message display too.

If the DSC is really not switched off, check the error coded and see if anything about the ABS/DSC system comes up.

The ABS warning light is in the right lower warning light cluster second light from the left ie to the right of the red brake warning light. In the cluster shown it does not state ABS on some models it does.

How persnickety is the inspector? From your pictures, you certainly seem to have an ABS warning light. The only problem is it has an exclamation mark in the middle, not the letters ABS. Was this a variation based on the intended market? For countries that speak English fluently, such as the USA, the light is labeled ABS. For countries that have at least a vague awareness of the English language, such as England, Australia, and New Zealand, they also get the ABS label. For all other countries, they get the exclamation mark instead of ABS, since the letters mean nothing to them.

Would your inspector be happy if you can show the mystery warning light is indeed for the ABS system? If so, you could pull a fuse or disconnect a wheel speed sensor and the mystery light should illuminate.

Or was the inspector abused as a child in school and is exacting his revenge on the general population? If your car was originally sold in a non-English speaking market, is this going to be a problem if you point this out? Do you know the history of the car? Will the inspector say the car must be brought up to New Zealand specifications for everything, not just the ABS warning light?

That's the one for the BRAKE (see handbook) e.g. comes on at ignition On when parkbrake engaged.

There's another for the ABS (from the handbook). If it's not self-testing then I think the bulb has gone.

This should be clearly identified in the owner's manual that came with the car. I am wondering if the manual is still in place in the OP's vehicle as these are typically specific for the market into which the car was sold.

I think you guys are right? Here is a page from the owners manual (2003 S-Type) and sure enough is does show the ABS light with "ABS" inside the yellow symbol. Unlike what was posted up thread that has an exclamation point instead?

Nothing to indicate what they use in other markets but you do have the ABS light on it's just labeled with an exclamation point instead of ABS!
It does come on with the key as it has a "Bulb Check Cycle" and should go out in a second or two if no problems are detected.
