Default Add transmission fluid

I have a 2003 S-type Jaguar and the I need trans fluid added it has a slight leak. The shop said they would have to do a complete flush because that is how they know how much fluid to put in, the factory recommended amount. But if I still have this leak I will have to do it all the time. Can't you just put in a quart or two at a time? I was told that the part to fix the leak (the hoses) where $250

They don't need to do a flush, they can top up and follow the procedure for determining the correct level after a flush. You should be able to find this easily if you search.

I asssume these are the hoses to the cooler, are they leaking badly? someone posted about a temporary repair to these recently, mabe you could try that?

Its such a hassle to add fluid that you would be better off just fixing the leak then filling it once and then be good.
Here is some info and filling it to spec so you can see how much trouble that would be to do every few days that you are low. Plus what damage would be done when you fluid is low and you are driving it. If you start starving the pump bads things will start to happen.

I would try to get that leak repaired asap.

We moved to a new home and I hadn't seen any oil on the garage floor and they check for a leak and couldn't find one so I had them do a flush.

Thanks for the advice it is appreciated. You never know about these tune up guys.

Did they tell you what fluid they put in? A few guys are running different fluids and seeing how they work in the long run. How much did the flush end up running you??

I didn't ask about the fluid I just assume that people know what they are doing. They asked what oil I wanted and I told them synthetic. The cost of the trans fluid was $159 and the cost of the oil change was $79. They said that my car holds more oil then I think it was 5 quarts. I about fell over when that told me. They did tell me the cost for the trans but I guess I wasn't thinking it would all come to $279.

Yea its more then 5 quarts of oil because of the oil cooler. Not sure the amount of oil for the 03-04 but the 05+ with dual oil coolers takes 7-7.5 quarts.

I wonder if they used the Castrol trans fluid then. Do you know if they hooked the trans lines up to the machine and pumped it through or just drain and fill. Did they do a trans filter?? 159 is really cheap if they did a filter. Was this like a Jiffy Lube style place or an independent??

I watch them hook up the hoses under the hood so they didn't just drain it but I don't think they changed the filter or they would have said something about it.

Oh ok they just did a power flush then. The filter is about a 100 or more just by itself thats why I was curious. The fluid is alot too if you get the ZF lifeguard. Not sure exact as it depends on where you get it from. I know some people on here have had really good results with the Castrol stuff. How does she shift now? I am getting to the point of needing to change mine. Will probably be a project for when I get back from the meet. Will probably order parts as soon as I get back. I'm going to do filter, sleeve, and fluid when I do mine.

Agreed. I got my trans fluid flused before a long distance trip. It is a pain in the *** and a leak in the harness connector was found. Got it fixed. Refilled with 8 quarts.
