Question adding fog lights to 2005 str?

Curious if anyone knows how I would go about adding factory fog lights in my 2005 str. I have the button inside the car, so was curious if there was a kit you can buy or do you have to replace whole front bumper with one made for fog lights? Called my dealer and he said may or may not actually be wired already for fog lights even though it has the button on the dash. Honestly cannot believe that all of them didn't come standard with fog lights. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Does your fog light switch look like this? If so, that switch is for the rear fog lights. If it has two switches, then something is weird, since then your car should have front and rear fog lamps from the factory.

What the heck are rear fog lights? I've turned this switch on a number of times, but I have no idea what it actually does... Eric

Our 2005 S-Type 3.0 has front and rear fog lights. The rear fog lights are nothing more than an additional bulb in both rear taillamp assemblies that illuminate when you press the rear fog light switch on the dash. These rear fog lights provide greater illumination of your car's rear end so you would theoretically be more visible in dense fog for anyone driving behind you. It's a good idea, and I find myself turning on those rear fog lights at night when in heavy traffic regardless of weather conditions just to keep the folks behind me a bit more honest....

Hey Eric... It's kinda neat, it looks like the brake lights are on. Audi's and some Merc's have them as well. The Audi ones that I've seen only light on one side. To Jon's point, I drive with mine on all the time as well, just to make sure that the nimrods see me.

Guys,

I have never tried the rear fog lights on the s-type, but in the volvo and porsche, they only light up when the car is in reverse and has no effect when in drive. Does the jags light up in drive?

Once you turn the rear fog lights on they stay on until you cut them off or turn the car off. I read the manual, but still wasn't sure where the lights were until I turned them on in a closed garage and notice the bright light from the rear every time I pushed the button.

You can't put front fog lamps in your '05 STR in the factory location because the R uses the openings for the factory fog lamps for the air inlets for the supercharger intercoolers. If you look where the fog lights should be you will see tiny radiators there. You certainly don't want to block the intercoolers with fog lamps do you? If so, I would recommend a 3.0 V6 instead.

definitely rear fog lights, i never use them though. i use to do a VW conversion with the euro switch and the rear of the GOLF/GTI/JETTA's had a location for them in the rear driver side.

The fog lights in that picture would be blocking the intercoolers like I said before.

Talking Re: ? about fog lights

Yes my dash does look like the pic you shown. Rear fog lights huh. Would have never thought to look in the rear of car when I pushed that button. I guess you are right I don't recall seeing any 2005 STR's with fog lights but several 2003's though. I guess I can live without em, just in my area there are many nights with heavy fog on my way to work and a lil extra visability would be nice.
Thanks for the clarification.

The lights you are referring to are the backup lights. No rear fog light would work in reverse. The rear fog lights are red while the backup lights are white. It is against the law in America to drive with tail lights in any other color than red. Also, the Techs are very right about the lower facia of the '05 and up STR. It was modded during the exterior update in '05. The 03 and 04 cars did have fog lights, 05 and up didn't.

This is one of hte reasons I bought a Pre-Update S Type R. I feel it looks cheap without them, this isnt a racecar Im sure covering up the two little ducts wont take away THAT much cooling power. The large duct is still functional for this im guessing?

About a year ago a new member bought an 08 Stype 3.0 (all have the 05-up R front bumper) and said it was simple to add them, he just bought a new switch panel and the 2 fog lights, im not sure how he mounted them though. I dont think he posted much. If I bought an 05 or up id def add them same with 08 XJR, XF etc. The 3.0 is fine for cruising and is very fun since you can push it hard and not go too fast but when I floor it at 60 MPH it doesnt quite pull like my R So yeah im all for you doing the upgrade coyfish

You could probably find some aftermarket high-quality applications that would work well too just not with the stock switch. I personally think this might be even better since you could wire them to always come on with the headlights instead of having to push the stupid button every time you start up.

In '05 the 3.0 and the 4.2 NA V8 both have front fog lamps or at least I have never seen one that didn't. The '05 4.2 SC R model does not have front fog lamps because the intercoolers for the supercharger are relocated to the ducts that contain the fog lamps in the other models. If you get down on your knees and look in those ducts you will see the 2 small radiators for the intercoolers there. Even if you wanted to put the fog lamps there the radiators will be in the way.

I thought the 3.0 and 4.2 non R cars came with the front foglamps standard all along. But check this one out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...1%7C240%3A1318

It's an 08 with the satin wood and nav but no foglamps.... Weird.

Well, not so weird. Checked autotrader, and all 08's got the R front bumper, with no foglamps. Every one of the 08's I looked at had no front foglamps. Also all leather wheel and the R style shifter in leather and chrome. Hmmmmm. Did Jag want to just make 1 bumper for the last limited run before the XF. They had to make the R bumper to house the intercooler, so that would have been the choice.
It was only in '08. Every other year has the different bumper for the standard cars.

Man.. I need to find something to do. I hate being laid off for a week. Sucks to be in the Auto business these days.....
At least it's only a week.... And not my job..

Real_Tech (or anyone) - I understand the STR's supercharger intercoolers were moved.... did that just leave a space where they used to be?

Were there other (non-cosmetic) changes, too?

Any changes to cooling for the ZF autobox, for example?

Any changes to airflow or other ducting? Maybe inside the engine bay? Or elsewhere?
