Default And Another AC thread.

Fed up with my inability to narrow down my ongoing AC problems, I decided to give in and take to my mechanic who specializes in AC and radiator work. He found several problems including two leaking Schrader valves and a leaking accumulator/drier. FIXED.... However an electrical problem remain... while he can force the compressor to kick on by jumping a ground, he can't seem to pinpoint what is making it so he has to do that in the first place.

bad thermistor.... bad control module...

I had replaced the ambient sensors inside the car and DCCM but I still seem to have issues.

Any thoughts?

Could the pesky spring and valve inside the compressor be keeping it from kicking on?

102 views and no thoughts? Just to follow up... This morning temp was 66 degrees. Guess what? Turned on AC and it's working. No guarantee it'll continue to work once the outside temp rises. Will look at ambient temp sensor behind bumper. If replacing that doesn't work, then I guess I'll have to take another look at the CCM circuit.

No respones because we have dozens of highly detailed threads on this exact problem.

Do some searching to get educated.

That's funny... I did a search.... In fact I usually do a seach before I post something up asking a question.... So far I haven't seen this "exact problem". So rather than respond back with a condescending remark that isn't helpful like your comment above why don't you offer me a link to what it may be?

Any of the usual ones: on here, jaguarclimatecontrol.com or the harness behind the bumper.

Based on the model year and what you have done so far the harness sounds favourite.

Just a followup for the uninitiated... it wasn't any of the "exact problems" as someone pointed out but a completely new one. Seems the ECU under the dash is not triggering the circuit to open the relay to allow the compressor to work as it should. Also seems as though the inside of said ECU has had water in it at some point. So off to get the ECU repaired if possible.

A follow up to my follow-up. All seems to working well with the ECU and the climate control now. There was a bit of confusion with how it was remedied but eventually we got it sorted. The intial outfit that the ecu was sent to could not find a problem with the unit. My mechanic was sure that was the issue but based on their recommendation and an issue with the OEM AC compressor blowing off refrigerant, we decided to replace it. That turned out not to be a fix as the jumper wire that had been installed to work around the AC clutch not engaging was not removed after the new AC compressor was installed. Not only did that not work it also killed the battery since the AC was drawing power even when the car was off. When I put the proper relay back in the fuse panel I again had no cold AC..... needless to say I was just a bit annoyed.

After I discovered the oversight, a quick call back to my mechanic and a return to his shop evolved into him going back to his original diagnosis and his pulling the ECU out again and sending it to a different repair shop. They acknowledged that there was indeed a problem with the ECU but that it was not fixable. So now the search was on for an ECU matching the same part number as the OEM. That also proved to be fruitless.

We ended finding a compatible ECU he then programmed it for the car. Been working great ever since. Its mighty nice to have AC on a hot day and heat on a cold day.

I have to mention that during the entire journey, my mechanic was a stand up guy and did not charge me for the work that it took to remedy any miscues.

If anyone needs a good Jag/Land Rover mechanic in the Columbia/Annapolis area I highly recommend Shane and Mike at English Auto in Odenton.

I have to point out that I contacted jaguarclimatecontrol about sending them the CCM. They dont work on 99-01 units. Mainly because they say there are so many of them out there and they are so cheap that it's better to just pick up a used one and trial and error fixing your climate control problem. Not the answer I was looking for but if nothing else he was honest and didn't needlessly take my money.
