and I should of wore my helmet that night.....

It is good to see that there are still some true lead feet left in the US. You don't see that too often, although on average, traffic speeds are slightly higher than they were before the repeal of the 55/65 mph speed limit back in 1995.

Two things that prevent me from achieving my goal of achieving 130 mph speeds is the lack of road for that type of driving. I live in central Florida. The only nearby highway that comes close to being able to safely travel more than 110 mph for a period is the Bee Line Expressway. On that road, I would consistenly achieve 100-110 mph for a 10 to 20 mile stretch.

The other thing that prevents this type of fun is the 121 mph electronic speed limit on my S-type. If I had money and time, I would have had that removed when I bought the car. It remains a big joke that Jaguar still limits its standard cars to 121 mph. I know that my car is safely capable of more than that. I also resent them telling me that it is for "safety." The only person responsible for my safety is me.

At some point, I will be ready to get that limiter removed. Has anyone had success with that?

It's not Jaguar. It your tires. Your car came from the factory with tires rated for a maximum speed of 121 mph. So Jaguar put that limit in. The STR is limited to 155 mph not so much for the tires but as a "general" top speed limiter. You are right that the car can safely handle higher speeds.

If you find out how to remove the speed limiter please post back how it is done. We don't have any electronic tuning available so it would very interesting to find out how you got it changed.

Buried the needle on the jag past 160mph.....So not all are like that.....will post up a video when weather permits on all 3 toys for you fellas......

Yours is an STR, isn't it? They're set to 155mph. The speedo is inaccurate both due to the software deliberately over-reading and the mechanical issues (i.e. quite cheaply made).

The tachos aren't accurate, either.

Hi folks! Just popped in the door from Disney World, Orlando Fla. Have nearly two feet of snow on the STR cause I drive a Ford Explorer to commute in the winter. I've had to tighten the leash on myself since the early Oct. 108 mph speeding ticket (trial in March). Before this ticket I traveled at 120 mph up a steep grade with plenty of pedal to spare. Have a 80 mile round trip @ an average of 70 mph. Blast her into the triple digits on stretches that won't accomodate the fuzz. The most fun was teaching an 2010 Camaro SS an STR was his 75 mph plus boss. Good to be back.

There's also the tire size setting in the computer, which may be a little or a lot off from the ones fitted (and how worn they are). That could make the reading more or less accurate.

Actually, the tires that came standard on the S-type are V-rated. V-rated tires are good to 149 mph. Tire ratings are as follows T- 118 mph, H-130 mph, V - 149 mph, W - 168 mph, Z 149+ mph.

Actually, the Europe cars did not have a speed limiter. Just US issue. Garbage.... especially since our speed limits are almost as high as some European countries.

I will be looking into removing the speed limiter again. i belive Eurotek does this, although it costs about 1G to do it. I haven't been able to justify that expenditure as of yet, however, if I ever get some spare change in my pocket, I will be mailing them my ECU.

All speed limit numbers are taken directly from Jaguar sales literature. Including the tire comment.

If you are unsure the speedometer is correct or not you can open the NAV menu and put the GPS speed on the touch screen. On my 2005 STR they match within 1 mph or my ability to read the analog speedometer.

All the face lift cars with Nav can do this.

Press and hold the phone and menu buttons for about 5 seconds. Then enter code 917 to enter the "extra" menu. Then go in to the navigation and you will see speed measured by GPS.

I was playing around with a 96-98 Cobra on the highway the other day and I noticed I got it up to 135ish really quick.
