I strongly agree with Jon, save your cash but if you really want a mesh grill maybe danielsatur would tell you to go to home depot buy some chicken wire mesh and then go to the paint section buy "chrome" spray paint and a tube of black silicone and a piece of rubber floor molding and have at it.

I know there is a guy on that sells these, i think on ebay, for the older grill. This guy is here in FL and he uses the same mesh, forms them and then has them chemically polished so it stays shiny like the factory one. He used my STR to make the lower grill, you can kinda see it in the attached pic. He also put a rubber seal around it and I attached it with stainless wire so you wouldn't see the hardware

I've done it to my 03 S-Type and I used the insert kit below. IF you DO IT RIGHT there will be no way of knowing the difference between the two. I would recommend buying the insert kit and taking your time, reading instructions, and paying attention to detail. Oh, the kit was around $125.00.

My conversion was done over two years ago and I haven't had any issues with it. Here are some before and after pictures. I did paint around the edges because the original one was gray and I wanted it to be black, but with the hood closed you can't really see the difference in color. I wanted mine to look original, so I took the extra steps to ensure a perfectly original look.

Oh and just FYI That insert kit is $90 shipped on ebay from the same seller:

For $10 you can make any type of grill you want for your car. You can then color match or contrast to suit. I particularly like the mosquito mesh size and antique gold color

Did you use the mina gallery kit? That looks great on your car. As far as the painting. I'm assuming you have to cut out the slats. On my silver car they are charcoal gray as well, so Are you painting what is left of the slats black so u can't see the gray?

Thanks for the compliment and yes I used the Gallery kit and a Dremel tool to cut away the slats. I cut them down to the very edge and sanded them smooth so even if you looked from the inside there is no evidence that they were ever there. You aren't painting what's left of the slats because you will be sanding them smooth. The paint is for the 1/8 gap in the picture below since that will be the only part that is visible. You can leave it gray if you wish, but as you see on the picture it’s originally black. I used white to outline the gap in the picture below.
