I agree the price is on the high side, but with a little bargaining it still may be a decent deal. It would be great to find an newer one for that kind of money and miles - good luck. Low mileage examples will only get harder to find.
My 03 had about 24k miles on it when I bought it, and paid somewhere around $17 - $18k if i remember right. This was from a used auto dealer/wholesaler. Private party is always gonna be a tick higher.
But anyway - it would be great to see someone on the forums pick it up! With me, Bodyman, and phd12volt all in the area, I'm sure one of us could scope it out for an interested forum member.

Actually Chris, It's the other way around. Check KBB and you will see the Private Party value is always lower. Not sure why that is. Probably cause dealers offer financing and sometimes a add on warrantee. Sure doubt that it's because they are all honest.
What I have in Lauries with 20,000 is looking even better. Even if it is the Grandma version.

Used cars are getting more expensive, but....
When i bought my 03 STR i paid 11k for it with 90k miles on it.
I almost bought a black one with 72k on it, and the dealer had it listed at 12,900 but sold it before i got a chance to look at it.
Because of the low miles on it, I would pay up to 17k. no more.

Given the issues with the pre-05 models, albeit minor, I would suggest the '05+ as others have stated. Here is one example from a private party in New Jersey that looks to be quite reasonable. It is double the miles, but I would suggest that it is a better buy at $15,900, considering the year.

LOL
I don't think there's anything at all that I'd even count as minor. More points on the license cos you've had it longer, maybe?

At twice the mileage though that's another 2 years to use the car for someone like me. But actual condition is paramount.

Uh, OK - some points:
1 - this is a real car actually for sale
2 - it has very low miles for the year, any year really, and STR's are not growing on trees.
3 - It appears to be in pretty good shape
4 - Price is a tad high, but not insane
I know nothing of the car other than what is posted in the ad. Those indicating "2005 + would be better" or this and that - well that's all well and good to have that opinion. Go find one then that has around the same mileage for sale. Unless you find one then you are just fantasizing about it IMHO which is kinda pointless.
I didn't realize my 2003 is so trouble prone....?

I have owned 4-different S-Types, 3 V8's and one V6. I got rid of my 03 because it was the first year of the 4.2 and the ZF tranny. Had the whopping noise treatment for the tranny, coolant issues, parking brake issues. I traded it for the 05 S-Type Sport 4.2 Limited Edition with the XK8 interior, still have that car and it is a very nice car but they had to replace this tranny because of some problem with the heat exchanger where coolant leaked into the tranny. My next Jag I think will be the XJR, the XJ I owned seemed to be built much better the S-Type, even though I love the way the S-Type looks. Unless you know a mechanic I would not recommend an 03

I will offer some advice, you're asking for TOP dollar yet haven't put any effort into your ad...Your target market knows the specs, like horsepower, just like the fat guy wanting a steak at a steakhouse, they knows the "specs" of the steak...The devil is in the details, is the streak Prime? Is it dry aged? Point is, "sell the sizzle, not the steak"...If yours is accident free, buy a carfax and ADVERTISE that it's clear and offer to email it to potential buyers..."Excellent" is pointless, offer specific details of how you always cleaned/detailed the thing...Was there ever a pet or a smoker in the car? If not, mention it...Have you replaced anything such as brakes/tires and if so, are they warrantied? Mention it...
