What you're looking at there is just an oil-to-water oil cooler. They've been around for a while. I just put one on my race car because I didn't have room for a big enough air-to-oil unit which is what most vehicles have. I don't think anyone has patent rights to those units.

I haven't looked that closely at the killer chiller because I basically don't believe in the design. It will heat-up after long runs so it's only good for bursts at best. That's just fine for many folks needs. It also may have very different coolant flow charcteristics than a simpler air-to-water unit. So a direct copy no.

why would it only work for a short burst? if the freon is keeping the plates cool.

What has been uncovered is the plate type heat exchanger killerchiller is using. This one you can buy for about $79 (instead the $750 from kincaid, where you buy the idea and some connectors/tubes...).
