Default Anyone use the Actron CP9125 on a '05 and up S-Type?

I have a 2005 3.0 S-Type. And despite having the coils and plugs replaced three times in the last 30,000 miles I still get occasional misfire codes (P300, 301, 303, 305). The guy at Autozone told me to buy the Actron CP9125 since I can easily diagnose and quickly erase codes. I know I could discharge the diode but it takes too long. Anyone else use this particular unit and have results? Please let me know.

I'd get to the bottom of the problem. If you used proper parts then no point in keeping on swapping them. If I thought OBD would help (not convinced) I'd make sure whatever I got would do "live data". Never heard of that device.

If your plan is to keep clearing the codes then expect more serious problems such as dead cats.

Have you replaced the two factory yellow IMT O-rings with the new-and-improved green ones? If not, do so ASAP....

I have a small OBDII reader that Is available for a quick read in my xk8 but I have an ultra gauge UltraGauge Automotive Information Center and OBDII Scan Tool in my 2000 S-Type and keep it connected at all times. It gives me a quick read on OBDII codes and provides me with a constant read on the intake and engine temperature. I am not one for junk on the dash so I mounted it in an area that is less intrusive to me. Had it for a year and it works well with my S-Type it does not work on my XK8.

It should, shouldn't it? I'd ask them to fix it since they claim the relevant OBD compatibility.

You are right but I never pursued it. I never knew if it was me not understanding how to force the application to work. I made several attempts and others did the same but failed. I would love for it to work on my xk8 just do not know how.

OBD II mandatory from 1996 so car is VERY likely compliant. That leaves the device. Sometimes makers are unable to understand what to do with pins 4 & 5 ("optional" and "mandatory" are apparently too hard to grasp???) so maybe at least check what car & device have of those pins.

I think your car has CAN as well as K-line but that OBD is via K-line so you might try a lead which omits the CAN so the device cannot be confused as to which protocol to use. (You could leave SCP off, too / try it both ways.)

I don't know about 05 and up, but I have that model of scan tool and I have used it on my 03 STR - it does have live data capability and is pretty easy to use. It will recognize your particular vehicle as a Jaguar S-Type based on the VIN. I've used it on my SAAB and Range Rover as well. Nice device for the price IMHO.

I hope I'm not hijacking. this seems relevant. I have an UltraGauge that I bought for use on my LandRovers. Will it read everything I need to read on my (new-to-me and soon-to-arrive) '03 STR? It'd be nice to not have to buy another tool.

The Actron unit will only give you basics - like those misfire codes - not worth the $$$ to purchase. Perform a search on the forum for "approved OBDII scanners".

I presently have the UltraGauge installed in my 2000 S-Type and I love it. It gives me all the info I need when driving and it will read the normal P codes.

For diagnosing the engine, it'll probably be adequate.

For the other dozen or so modules, I expect it'll do nothing. And with luck you may never need to look at them.

It gives me the codes, and live data - LT/ST fuel trims, O2 sensor readings, engine temp, fuel level, coolant temp, EGR status and more. Has freeze frame capability, state emissions test check, it can turn off the MIL's - I'm not sure what else one could expect it to do outside of a dealer-level diagnostic tool?

What did you pay for your Actron code reader, and what is the full model number?

Sounds like all the basic (i.e. mandated) stuff. Same as an elm327 in those terms.

I think he is using it on a 2000 s type. I am wondering how it would work on a newer s type because I would like to get one too.

Jon - I have the CP9575. If I remember correctly after some shopping around i got it from Amazon for around $115.00. I see them for about $130 normally.

I don't have the STR (where the Actron lives) with me right now or I'd go grab more info for you if you need it.

Overall it's very simple to use and I'm satisfied with it. Probably cheaper options out there but I've been happy with Actron products and have no regrets. Worked on everything from my 1996 Range Rover to my 07 SAAB 9-3, 07 Jeep GC, and 06 Jeep Commander, and of course the STR.
