Default Assistance requested sale of Jaguar S type VDP

Hello,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask or post but:

I'm getting a bit 'old' and ILL. My Wife does not like to drive the Jaguar because She can't adjust to the powerful engine.

I'm looking to sell it and not sure what would be a proper asking price for Me and a potential buyer:

A Lt. Charcoal 2006 'S' type (4.2) VDP. Just at 45,000 highway miles.
Mature driver; non -smoker, garaged - never driven in the Winter or been exposed to road salts. Of course it was 'ran' - pulled into the driveway to keep it healthy during the Winter.

This vehicle is located in Dauphin, Pennsylvania - about 12 miles West of Harrisburg - at my home 'Shangri-La'

It does NOT have Adaptive cruise; Voice. The Map DVD just changed to the 2012.

Feedback appreciated

Joseph,

I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Center to S-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to advise on asking price.

Sounds sweet, please let us know where it is located.

Nice low mileage just be aware that you can't give away an S Type!

My 2005 STR which has many more miles than yours (110K). I was offered $3k by a car dealer.

Do you have any family members/friends that might want a nice car? A shame to give it away to a stranger.

Yes, all my life - with the way I respect vehicles....always had people argue who was the first to express a desire to buy. Everyone I knew always searched for that low mileage, non smoker, mature driver garaged car - they always 'went the distance' and worth the asking price. The dealers are in fantasy land - along with that Blue book! They will price it at $5000.0 above what I feel it is worth - but they will not give me. Just on a description they offered $17,500.00 and if it was actually what I said it will be adjusted up. I sized them up and decided they would still be 'insulting' - I did not waste my time. I am not an motivated seller. I desired to do a swap for a safe vehicle my Wife can drive.
I moved out of NY 21 years ago - in that time....I remember no one.
No one in the Family desires it - they say it is not practical.
It has the appearance of a new car. This vehicle WILL be a sought after classic.

I was able to track down maybe half a dozen sales on 2006 VDP editions. All were in the $13K-$15K range.

I'd grab the $17.5K offer and run.

NADA says $10.3-12.8K Selling this won't be that easy, but if you find an enthusiast, you could get lucky.

I had typed that earlier, but thought i was being a jerk. If the dealer offered $13,5K, I would run with that as well!

It may be helpful to post photos of the vehicle for forum members to see...

I rarely have any doubts as to whether I am a jerk or not.

The OP is/was looking for feedback. Being realistic about the current value might help sell it now vs. letting it sit for decades waiting for the depreciation curve to hit bottom and the value of being a classic takes over.

I have my doubts that any S-type will be a sought after classic. Maybe museum quality type Rs?

I surely hope he DOES get $17,500 for his S-Type. Might be a big boost to all the rest of us that are holding onto our vintage (read "long in the tooth") S-Types!

He does live in Shangri La so that may have a bearing.

If that 17.5k is firm I'd scoop it up and be on my way.

I would only pay $17.5 if it was a STR model. Even though the car has relatively low mileage, 45000 miles is much higher than a collector would like to see.
The car might make a good driver for the rest of its life.

Since the car is 9 years old, I am willing to bet that all the suspension bushing seals are cracked and the next buyer will have to replace all the bushing in the near future. (They age and crack even if you don't drive the car.) Radiator hoses may be near the end of their life as well. Probably original tires, so a new set may be necessary.
If I purchased this car in its stated condition, I'd likely put $3+K into it to be sure everything is in good condition. Therefore with it not being a STR, if I was in the market for this car, I might pay as high as $10K for it.

Hello,

Many Folks have not had the opportunity to drive an Jaguar 'S' type vehicle - when they do they are quite impressed.

There is an important point to be considered when owning a Jaguar:
Most cars - from a distance look the same. But not a Jaguar!!! This makes a Jaguar unique.
And because Jaguars are unique - so are their owners. The owners of the 'other' vehicles are followers; An Jaguar owner is a leader.

Take 17.5 for a Jaguar 'S' type VDP - no way !!! That would be an insult to the vehicle. Besides this 'S' type still has a new appearance.

I did post photos but I will replace them as they are not the type of photos revealing details - enthusiasts seek.

If you don't like the offer from the dealer, please feel free to price it at the estimates given by your fellow leaders above, the people who know these cars best.

Joseph, you are absolutely correct in your thinking. After reading your post (2 above), you have convinced me that the dealer is trying to put the screws to you. I too would hold out for at least the $23,798.49 range.

The dealer is obviously not an enthusiast and has no right in profiting off of your pristine vehicle! Heck even look on EBay what some of those low ball dealers are putting reserves on traded in enthusiasts vehicles.

I am with you, wash it, wax it and continue to pamper it. Post a free ad on Craigslist. Hopefully sooner than later that some special enthusiast will see the value in your Jaguar.

Peace out brother.

THIS vehicle is pampered! A 2006 Jaguar with original tires??? That is called neglect! When I get an inspection - a good reputable shop should advise of the conditions you state. I bring mine to a Foreign car shop! They refer to my Buicks as Foreign cars! And I'm not the type to WAIT to be told....I ask those questions.
It did help that I grew up with a best Friend (when I did not have a job [many years ago] I spent many hours with Him while working before the safety laws prohibited people in the Bays) and a Brother that rebuilds drag racer engines.
Hoses - perfect condition! Just replaced the Thermostat.
Tires - on any vehicle I replace well before they are required. Why??? because the value of a life is more important than the space seen on the head of a Lincoln penny.

This vehicle IS the sought after: Do you want a car close to 'NEW' - find someone that is a mature driver; a non smoker; that garaged the vehicle with low mileage; regular maintenance AND if it is a high end vehicle - it was not subjected to road salts as are applied here in the North East.

Those days of finding an Inspection station that will 'pass' and apply a sticker to a vehicle in questionable but drivable condition is ancient history!

I KNOW - If a person ever wanted a $60,000 Jaguar VDP - they WILL pay $25,000 - and have piece of mind as they know - the difference between the two figures means they are OK with possibly having to spend a thousand or two to fix something. The only thing is........................ NOT WITH THIS VEHICLE! Attended to by Euro Motors - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

What may make THIS one go for extra $ is that rarely do you see a VDP S-Type around. I see many Base models, with an occasional STR, but I had to check online even to get a glimpse of one. Since so much is original on your car, I'd replace all of the rubber with OEM ONLY parts, and just about all high-end used cars will come with new tires. You might get close to your asking price, if you add a little research about this car/model, such as # imported, # with color combo....anything that shows how rare/limited this really is/was.
