Audio connectivity module and iPhones
Hello,
Guys I installed the ACM in a 03 STR few years ago primarily for the USB port, much more convenient than a CD changer. I also got the first iphone (metal back case) around that time. Everything worked well but i wasn't interested in iphone playback anyway.
I tried plugging in a 3gs with 3.1.2 software and it doesn't even charge (which is all i want), keeps telling me the "accessory was not made for this device" and when i tell it not to use the airplane mode it just repeats the message.
I found a ACM firmware upgrade from dension which i performed and it still does the same thing. http://www.dension.com/jaguar/?agree=0&sc=0
Anybody here with the same problem?

Apple changed the charging pins in the newer Iphone 3G. And ipods produced after sept 2008.
All the previous Ipods / phones could charge using +12v over the firewire pins. OR +5v over the USB pins (both are in the dock connector). Most car audio stuff simply passed +12v over the firewire pins (no need to regulate the voltage down to +5v for usb). This is the case with the ACM as well.
The newer gen ipods / iphones can only charge via +5v over the usb pins, and ingore the +12v present at the firewire pins.
Now, this is enough of an issue that they have made an adapter which takes the +12v from the firewire pins, and makes it +5v over the usb pins so the newer gen phones / ipods can charge.
Here's a link to the adapter:
It just sits between the phone and the cable.
The griffin one is $11.96

The Scosche one is $24.99
http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-passPO.../dp/B001HN6CVA
They also make one with an extension cable on it, so you don't have to have the adapter at the edge of the cable:
Its $30.99

Either one should work fine for the ACM.
Take care,
George

For those who don't already have it, here's the webpage with the complete history of updates and changes to the ACM since original issue.
