Auto sensitive rear view mirror - leaking fluid

Anyone with a similar experience?
I've been told that the light sensitive fluid in S-Type internal rear view mirrors can leak from the mirror assembly.
Well it's happened to me, and the black "goo" that leaks out is extremely corrosive - places where it has dripped have become pitted or the surface coroded away. A cloth I used to clean up the mess was rotted through within hours.
I've raised it with Jaguar as a health and safety issue and also suggested that it's a quality issue as well.
Has anyone else had the problem? Is there any solution for cleaning up the fascia that has been pitted?

Yeah, It happened on a 95 XJ6 I owned. I believe it has happened to a lot of owners. Stained the wood on the console, would not come off. Dealer wants big bucks for replacement mirror, sells the complete assembly even though the lens just plugs in.
I used the bad lens as a pattern for a plain glass mirror.

Tell me about it Doug. $650 for the replacement mirror and Jaguar don't want to know about the damage their acidic mirror fluid has done to my console and the j-gate plate.
I don't plan to buy parts through jaguar again.
They are well into rip off territory.
