Default Backup Sensor Fault

The reverse detection system on mySTR began acting screwy today. Beeped wildly for a few seconds and then just quit. No morebeeping or anything. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should start looking for the possible problem?

check the module in the trunk to the left beside the spare.. undo connector and look for water.. or corrosion.. if ok the one sensor is gone dead.. engine off in reverse with ear to each sensor you will hear a light clicking like how a dolphin makes the one that doesnt make a noise is the bad one..

I had this similar problem. For a few days whenever I put it in reverse, it would beep for a long time then stop. Then after that, it just came on and would stay on till I took it out of gear. Then recently it just stopped. It appears as if it's not as sensitive anymore though (IE before it beeped like 10-20 feet away now it's about 5-10 feet).

might just need a new piezo (the tiny speaker in the rear deck). To get to it, you will need to remove the rear deck. It is pretty painless to get to it. I had mine out in like 5 minutes although im pretty well versed how a car comes apart. It sits right on top of the rear deck on the driver side. Looks like a little tweeter.

Any idea how to get at the piezo in my wife's X-Type Sportwagon. It appears to be located in the passenger side C pillar as the wagon doesn't have a package tray. Not quite sure how to pull the trim pieces. Any way to test this thing without having to remove it. Pull the plug on the module and cross a couple of pins perhaps?

I'm gettin' nagged to death on this one. Gone her whole life without park assist and now can't live without it.

Jaysus give me patience...

The wives do get spoiled rotten by these new features rather quickly. My wife never had Bluetooth before until we bought this S-Type. With her overhead microphone on the fritz for the last couple of weeks [and the car back in the shop for a new microphone and both rear stabilizer links (essentially the tie-rod bars and bushings) to be replaced today], it's as if her ability to communicate with the entire outside world has collapsed.

Hey, I'm still happy to be driving my 1999 Dodge Ram pickup just as it was 10 years ago....

Gents, my '05 S-type is beeping eratically when there is nothing behind the vehicle. Makes backing out of a parking space a scary thing - I keep thinking I'm going to run over somebody. I get out, nothing behind me... Any thoughts? I'll try the checks noted above.

Mine just started that today with the advent of our extremely cold weather. I wonder if the weather or ice or salt buildup on the rear bumper could cause that?

Does the computer monitor this system? In the '03 manual, it says that a 3 second tone will be heard as soon as the vehicle is put into reverse if there is a problem with the system. Mine, too, has beeped at me when I did not find an obstruction, so I am curious if I may also have a problem...
