A basic DVD NAV update question.

A basic DVD NAV update question.
I have a hopelessly old 2003 DVD NAV disc in my 2005 car. Seems like I was slipped an old one ...
So if I want the latest (2009-2010) do I just buy that disc or is there more to this than that? Interim updates required?
I'm thinking of looking for a 2008-2009 at a substantial discount and forgoing the $200 latest version.
Does anyone know when these generally come out. I'd hate to buy one and a week later find out that there's a new update.

For 2005, here is the disc:
http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...llProducts=YES
It is plug and play.
There was another company besides Navtec who did pre 2003 S Type Navi systems. Best bet is to call the dealer. They do not update them often from what I have seen, I was under the impression it was every FEW years. Who knows if there will even be another update for our vehicles from them given that the S is discontinued.

I believe that you just need the single update meaning you can skip all the previously iussued updates but as yet none of the responses have addressed my original question.

Thanks for that clarification.
I'm looking at one now that's a 08-09 version but then he also offers just an 09 update for $30. WTH? It sounds to me like he's offering the original at stupid money and copies at $30 a piece but he can't legally say or do that. He also has no record of selling a copy.
Danger Wil Robinson, Danger ...
I'm technically comfortable making copies of DVDs and performing updates but I don't want a software upgrade that goes bad and renders my NAV dead.

Ah you're just too young.
Original "Lost In Space" TV show.
Billy Mummy played Wil Robinson and their robot "Robbie the Robot" seen much earlier in a great sci fi flick "Forbidden Planet".
The robot used to issue that phrase incessantly and throw his arms up in the air whenever things were about to get dicey. It usually involved Dr. Smith.
Aren't you glad you asked????

Bob-
You should be able to buy the DVD from Navteq and load it. If there are any software updates needed, they are on the disc. You could ask them when you call.
I upgraded from version BD to version BH and there were no updates required. There are 3 versions between these two and I had no problem.

Thanks for that Eric. I am looking at a used BH version. The current one is BJ and I don't think there was a BI version???
So can you describe the operational updates (not new map content) on the BH version a bit? I've read about being able to enter changes while the car is moving?

I have no idea on the changes. I upgraded to BH from BD almost two years ago and I frankly don't remember any. The changes, if any, can't have been much. I put the new disc is and followed the instructions. Seems as though there was an interminable wait (about 60 seconds) while the screen said, "Don't touch anything. I'll get back to you." Then the screen popped up in the ready mode.
My instruction book matches the screens I have now so there can't have been anything in the user interface that changed. Since I haven't tried to edit while enroute, I don't know if that is a pipedream or fact. I'll try it out later today and get back to you.
Eric
Addenda-
Went out and put in my office address and activated it. The I put the car in gear. At that point I put in a previous destination....and it worked. Then, I asked to enter the street address of a new destination...while still in gear. It accepted that too.

Well the "guy" I talked with doesn't want to sell the original NAV DVD just the $30 copy.
He works in the auto auction trade and the story he tells me is that a lot of unscrupulous people (not him of course ...) will swipe the NAV DVDs out of auction cars and sell them on Ebay. This explains why my 2005 car has a 2002-2003 DVD in it.
So this non-ethical choice is to commit yet another crime to correct the original crime commited against me.
Now he's selling copies of the previous generation of the Navteq DVD so I guess that tends to keep Navteq off of his back.
Jeeze the car business is slimy.

Someone swiped my dvd at some point, so when I bought it, it didn't have one. Of course one of my demands with the dealer was to get me a new dvd upon delivery of the vehicle. Of course they didn't get me one when I went to pick it up and subsequently gave me the runaround after multiple inquiries throughout the next couple weeks. I just said screw it, cut my losses and ordered the newest version. I knew they would have gotten me an older one anyways, so it didn't bother me THAT much. I knew I would have ordered the latest version at some point anyways.

Were you driving or just "in gear"? Everything greys out after about 5mph on mine, I can enter from a standstill in gear just not at speed.
