Default Bike Rack on S-Type R

Anybody here ever put a bike rack on their STR? How did you go about doing it.. one of those cheesy strap bike racks, roof rack or trailer hitch rack? I'd like to avoid damaging my paint or cutting holes in the bumper.

I noticed there are OEM Jaguar roof bars and bike racks.. but I have never seen them IRL and don't know how well they are built.

Looking for suggestions. Thanks!

They sell folding bikes that would fit in the trunk.

I don't know that I've ever seen a bike, skis, snowboard or surfboard being carried on a Jaguar either. It's kinda like a Ferrari or Lamborghini in that respect.

Though I have seen a camping trailer towed by a Lamborghini so there are a few crazies out there.

Perhaps the new Maserati SUV - The Kubang is a better fit?

The spoiler on the back would make a truck mount difficult...I believe a hitch doesn't exist for a post facelit STR, if it is, that's your only way to be sure no paint gets scratched...You're sort of limited to the roof...

I mountain bike for health & fitness.. when I go to the trails I see Mercs/BMWs/Lexus/Infinitis all the time with bike racks. So.. why not a 7 year old Jag?

I figured the roof rack was probably the only real good option. I'll go down to the dealer and see if they have any that I can look at before ordering. (probably not, as it seems most Jag owners are still mostly elderly, inactive types I guess.. *i kid i kid!* )

I thought about mounting one to mine, then I bought a 10 year old outback. Works much better and I don't care if I scratch it.

This page claims to have some. I'm getting a bicycle for fitness myself and have just contemplated this very question. I don't want something that's stuck on all the time if it can be implemented safely, securely and in a fashion that doesn't scratch my paint.

I have a factory roof rack on my X type. Might want to see if you can get the part number for the S and do a search for a NOS one on www.partsvoice.com as it will likely be your cheapest route. I found mine sitting at a dealer in NY who let it go for $200 shipped with 2 bike attachements but I think it was made by Thule so the Thule accessories should fit the rack if you can find one. The XJR has good old gutter rails so an aftermarket rack for gutters goes on just fine. I also have hitches on both and find it silly that anyone would go buy or use another car for light/medium duty towning, taking to the ski resort or a quick trip to go biking. Even thinking of trailering my TVR to Canada for a car show in the fall with the XJR. Personally, I'd rather be behind the wheel of one of my Jags no matter where I'm going then subject myself to a "lesser" ride. There is a reason why Jaguars have been one of the tow vehicles of choice in Europe for years. nixx, doesn't let the snobs talk you out of one. JK for those that wear your undies 2 sizes too small.

I thought about putting a rack on the s type but the wife wouldn't let me. Did some research and found that Thule made an adapter for the s type but it is no longer available. You can still find some online if you look hard enough. Once you have the adapters you can use multiple Thule rack options. I have used Thule racks in the past and always been happy with them.

I'd start here first to see if they still have some in stock. If not get the part number and do a search of dealer stoc at www.partsvoice.com :

I have a Thule roof rack, with bike carriers and ski carrier.

These are the parts I have:

Thule Rapid System gutterless feet (4) no. 754
Thule Rapid System adapter kit no. 1171
Thule Rapid System 118cm WingBars (2) no. 961
Thule ProRide aluminium cycle carrier no. 591
Thule Xtender ski carrier no. 739

It doesn't go on quite as easily as the Thule video suggests - I leave the roof attachments slightly loose whilst I fit the feet for the bars, then tighten them up.

I have removed the bulkhead and with the "60" seat folded can put my mountain bike in my 2005 STR with the front wheel removed. In my previous 2003 4.2, I was also able to fit two bikes with both seats folded. Might be possible in the STR too.

Here's the Thule Page that has all of their racks. You can pick by vehicle and price which one(s) will fit your vehicle.
