Default Bilstein/CATS

Read a few posts but cant seem to find a clear answer on checking condition of CATS when no errors are present.
Manually bounced each corner and all is very stiff on mine. Car feels very firm on the road; not really a bad thing..
Car's only done 70,000 miles but I'd expect any strut to have failed after 18 years of gravitational pull.
Probable they've defaulted to 'hard' but not that easy to tell from what I gather.

Bilstein here, want around $1,100 per side; probably half of what Jaguar would want for the same part, but in all fairness to Jaguar I haven't checked as yet.
From initial inquiries, it'll be the usual Australian story and be cheaper for me to import out of the USA as compared to the UK and EU.
Anyone suggest a well priced US seller?

I gather the Bilstein front part number is:20-070854 and rear is:20-070885.
I couldn't find any post about a successful rebuild.
Reverting to a non CATS setup doesn't appeal to me.

Found a used pair for $80 USD each but you just don't know the true mileage.

It seems Rockauto has no fronts in stock and the rear is ~$272 USD.

Good luck, back to morning brew . . .

The OE parts are Bilstein so hard to see why Jaguar would charge less!

If all else fails I suppose read the module to find out what it thinks...

the shocks ARE STIFF when you are sitting. thats normal. they do the CATS thing once youre moving. if they arent leaking, you prob dont need shocks. when they fail they are leaking or sloppy loose

At the beginning of the year I changed all my STR suspension including springs. I checked around most places as well as Jaguar & Bilstein & the prices were pretty much all the same.

Like JagV8 says, check the module. The default is Firm but you can see what it's doing when driving - see if it switches to Soft on a smooth or rough straight road.

To the 'usual suspects', thank you for your informative replies.
I'll have a closer look today for any leaks and pay more attention on the road.
Heard a bit of a front end 'crash' noise at crawling speed the other day over a pothole hence the suspicion but likely one of the bushes. Some bushes I think aren't visible unless the part's removed.
Have a pair of new rotors to fit as well. I've had enough of the 'run out' on the what was the first pair after the original Brembo rotors. I suspect the run out's been caused buy the unmatched rotor pad combination. Lost count of the times I've machined them but the steering wheel vibration returns after a while and have tried 3 brands of pads.
I don't have a 'reader' yet, bit of a useless tool on a couple of old Triumph's. Maybe I buy that first. Best one for x202?
If struts are okay, they won't last forever so I'll probably start buying one at a time and spread the load.
